31wks, 1D & my water broke yesterday

Yesterday started as a normal busy work day. I was in a 1 1/2 hr long client meeting at the end of the day. Felt totally fine, nothing un-normal. Stood up to say goodbye & could feel the gush. I ran to the bathroom & sure enough there was a small pool of fluid followed by a larger trickle. I had just bought giant pads for my work stash over the weekend, but didn't bring them in yet. ugh So, I told my boss & called DH & my sister (also a obgyn). DH called my doctor & everyone proceeded to Triage. My boss wanted to drive me, but she has a brand new BMW & I had nothing to sit on, so I drove myself. Looking back, that probably wasn't smart. But, as soon as I stood up from my drive, it was like Niagara Falls. Fluid soaking my pants, shoes, etc. It was really really unpleasent.
In Triage, they did lots of tests, confirmed that my water had broken, put me onto antibotics, steroids for the baby, and anit-labor drugs to stop the contractions that were starting to be very painful. They confirmed that I am about 1cm dialated. They did a quick u/s which determined that the baby was measuring exactly to size, but that the amniotic fluid seemed very low.
I spend the night in L&D and I'm still here now. I should be going down shortly to have a more precise u/s. My sister seems to think that they will probably me induce me this wknd exactly as I turn 32 wks b/c of the fluid unless this u/s says differently.
The NICU doctor gave the facts about how the baby will most likely need a breathing & feeding tubes & prepare for the baby to stay until 34-37 wks depending on development.
This is all coming so fast that it's really hard to digest. We're just hoping at the baby continues to cook for as long as possible.

Hugs to you!! This is exactly what happened to my mom 22 years ago with my sister. She was a 28 weeker (on the dot), 2lb11oz. She had the steroids. She was a feeder/grower in the NICU and did very well! I hope the same for you hun!! Please keep us posted!! If you make it to 32 weeks that is awesome!! My twins will be delivered before 37 (normally come around 34-36) and they are small, doctor wants to get them to 3lbs at least but doesn't think I will get them to more than 4. I can imagine how scary it is but I have a good feeling your baby will do very well, especially with the steroids and the size being right around where it should be!

You have many MANY thoughts and prayers- I have a good friend who delivered at exactly 32 weeks at the end of 2010- and she said in the NICU, her daughter was one of the "most mature" babies there. Her daughter is PERFECT (she's 14 months old now), and yes, it was scary in the beginning, but the good news is that most babies born at this age are healthy and happy and totally developmentally normal. You are in good hands, and are doing what is right for you and your little one. Definitely keep us updated- hugs!!!
