Babies: 6 - 9 Months

waking every hour?? at 8 months--HELP!!

My son will be 8 months in a few days. For the last week, he has been waking very often. First, it was a few times ( around 3-6) and now it has become every single hour all night long! He wakes up crying and sounds so sad. He has never cried like that during the night before. He is completely fine when he is picked up. Tried feeding, giving paci, changing diaper, offering tylenol (in case it is teething related) and nothing is working. Oh my I am tired! Any advice or ideas? I'm not keen on letting him cry-so no CIO advice please.

  • Oh me too. I am sooo tired of this!! I've even tried letting him CIO and that isn't even helping. I'm looking forward to reading the responses.

  • I feel your pain, we are flip flopping back b/w every other week colds, and ear infections and teething :( its been a rough month! welcome to the club, it can only get better right :)  I just keep telling myself how well behaved he will be as a teenager since hes been a little more demanding as a baby! But stinking cute too :)

  • DS1 was a horrible sleeper period---so I don't recall anything with him because he's still bad but yeah, DS2 has gotten worse and worse....it's bad.  I'm at my wit's end.  So you're not alone.

I have found that I have to let him cry a bit....but you kind of get to know which cries they'll stop with and what they won't.  Ya know???

He is also teething like CRAZZZZZY.  I swear he's getting like 4 in at once.  Poor guy.  Plus I hear the growth spurt at 9 months is a bad one.

  • You've got to get him off what he's hooked on (being picked up). I had a baby that was literally hooked to my boob and waking every hour or less over Christmas. I nearly lost my mind. I did some gentle methods to get him moving in the right direction (and cut his overnight calories) then we moved on to CIO.

I'd say you have to stop picking him up. If you still want to go in and comfort, that's fine, but if you keep picking him up... you'll keep picking him up. It will resolve eventually, but it could be weeks if not months.

  • I think there is an 8 month wakeful period, we are at the end of it and DD is finally now only waking once at night after about 8 hours of sleep.  DD would cry and stand up in her crib, I pick her up and rock her or pat her back until she falls asleep.  Hopefully it is the 8 MW and you will be out of it soon.
