Name poll/thinly veiled "my kid is cute" AW

So I think we're pretty much decided on Henry for the first name for this boy. I'm still getting used to it, but I've been like that with pretty much every kid. Also there are no other options in the universe. Trust me, I've been through every other name. Hypothetical Boy #4 is going to be Eleanor whether he likes it or not.

So now onto middle names! Leo Keith is named after my husband's grandpa (he's actually a III if you want to get technical). Charlie's mn James is after my grandpa. So we're thinking another family name here. The options if we do another grand parent are Jack (not happening for drama reasons), Aminollah (not happening because it's just not), and Allen. So it will probably be Allen.

So anyway, the veiled AW - yesterday we were talking about this with FIL and Leo, out of nowhere goes - "What about Nick?" Nick is a cousin of his that he hasn't seen or heard about at all for a good 6 months, but that he really loved when we stayed over for one day this past summer. He started talking again about that trip (I seriously can't believe the memory on this kid) and about how much he likes that name.

Now I'm slightly tempted to do Henry Nicholas because seriously, how cute is that?? I can't believe he even remembers Nick, let alone understood that we were trying to choose the name of a relative. Clearly he is a genius.

Wow, I can write a novel about nothing. So yeah it will probably be Allen but maaaybe Nick? Which do you guys think sounds better?

  • They're both great, I don't think you can go wrong either way!

    And super cute!

I agree on the memory thing- In June we were visiting some relatives in KS and DS fell in love with this little wooden guitar my cousin had in her room.  After a day I had to hide it because I was afraid he was going to break it.  So this Christmas, 6 months after the fact, we arrive at their house at about 2am, Steven goes straight for the stairs and I asked him where he was going and he said "to get the guitar, mama!".  I followed him and he went straight to her room, went over to the dresser looking for the guitar. It was still hidden, but he was just barely 2.5 when we were there last.  I couldn't believe he remembered it!

  • That's funny.  Jakob wanted us to name Layna Darth Vadar.

I think I like Henry Allen better.  It just rolls off the tongue better.  But as far as names go by themselves, I like Nicholas better than Allen.

Your last name doesn't start with a M, does it?  Wouldn't want the kid to have HAM as his initials :)

  • Oh, Leo!  That's so sweet.  I think Henry Allen and Henry Nicholas sound equally distinguished. I think, for me, it depends on who you'd prefer to honor.

And fwiw, I love love love Henry.  We won't be using it, because we're dumb and named our first dog that ... but it's a fabulous name.

  • I like Henry Allen better, LOL! But seriously, that does flow better. And Leo is getting to be so big! I think he is going to be an awesome help this time around.

I like them both a lot, but with your last name, I think Henry Allen rolls a little bit better.  Henry Nicholas A___ seems like too many syllables, imo.  But too cute about Leo's choice - those three year olds have amazing memories, don't they?!?

  • Aw, that is sweet and I love Henry Nicholas. We have a slightly similar story. In utero my #1 (3 at the time) kept calling the baby 'edward' and he was dead certain that the baby in my belly was Edward (from Thomas the train- and I'm so glad edward likes to 'help and share' :)). We called him Edward all throughout the pregnancy and Dh had lost an uncle Edward a year or so back (family name on his side). So we used Edward as the middle name and dh's side of the family felt very honored as well. It was win-win:) ds1 called him Edward for several weeks once he was born before dh was insistent on calling him his first name. You could wait awhile and see what feels right, both very great names :)
