DD wants to be @ the breast all the time

anytime DD is awake, she pretty much wants the breast.  it's not always that she's hungry either; she likes to use it as a pacifier.  I don't quite know what to do anymore cause I'm having a hard time being tied to her & a chair so much.  my moby wrap provides some freedom, but it still doesn't give me complete freedom.  although use of a nuk isn't recommended yet, we've introduced it, but she takes it very limited, still preferring the breast.  any suggestions?

  • I can't tell how old your LO but I'm judging from your ticker that she's pretty little.  I know it seems tough now but let her nurse as long or often as she wants.  You're not just a pacifier.... you're mom and everything to her!!

That said, my DD wants to nurse more often when I'm holding her.  Can your DH or family hold her while you shower or do other things?  Does she like the swing or bouncy seat?  After a couple weeks, she'll be much more independent and won't want to be on you constantly.

FWIW, my DD got a paci right when she was born.  I couldn't nurse for 2 days b/c she had to have surgery, and she ended up nursing great!

  • No suggestions for you, but I know how you feel! My DD is 8 weeks today and wants to be at the breast all the time. For the most part, I let her as much as I can. Good for the supply:) Good luck, it can be daunting at times.

  • It's just what newborns do, especially the first few weeks. Is there anyone else at home right now? Maybe they can wear her in the Moby to give you a break. But other than that, enjoy it! Books, smartphones and the tv are all your friend. The side-lying position is also awesome, because you can lay down and snooze while the baby nurses. Hang in there, it can be really overwhelming in the beginning...

  • The first few weeks are like that but it gets better. Just keep it up, you're doing exactly what youre supposed to.
