I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
I will say that I have yet to use the glider in his room ( I regret spending the money on it truthfully) I just use the recliner in the living room it is much more comfortable.

Carters 2 pack receiving blankets. They are lightweight & swaddle well (and a lot cheaper than the A&A ones people rave about).
Bouncy seat, I actually borrowed a second from a friend my LO likes it so well (one on each floor).
Rock n play, she slept in that the first 3 weeks and still occasionally if she's spitting up a lot.
PnP, my Graco one has a changing table which I love. No need for a newborn napper, glad I didn't spring for one with since LO is 11lb at one month. She sleeps fine in bassinet level. I use mine on first floor for naps, answering the door, and diaper changes.
Baby monitor. I have one of the summer video ones
1) FP Rock N Play Sleeper - used to sleep at night, keep her calm while I'm in the bathroom, everywhere
2) Medela pisa pump- started using on day 5 when we had latch issues and my nip needed to heal while keeping up supply
3) Carter's super fluffy blanket - DD loves skin to skin and it keeps both of us warm
4) Snug a Bunny Swing - the only way I get stuff done for longer than 5 minutes at a time
5) Receiving blankets - we double them as burp cloths and have 20 or so at this point
Also I'm going out to buy a bunch of cheap towels from Target today to use on the changing pad. She gets poo/pee on the pad at least twice a day and they are easier/cheaper than pad covers
Play mat, swing, Summer Infant SwaddleMe's, MAM pacifiers, Moby.
I know you only asked for five, but I'm going to give you some more tips that I consider need-to-know!
First, have a couple different brands of pacifiers on hand. We didn't introduce them until 3w, but she wouldn't take Soothies, Gumdrop, Nuk or Avent pacifiers. We thought she was just going to reject them altogether, then we tried MAM and they have been lifesavers. We only use them to soothe and for naps, she rarely gets it at night.
Boppy, an electric breast pump, and a small manual breast pump (for travel) have been necessities for me to BF.
We hardly use our PnP. DD slept in an Arm's Reach co-sleeper bassinet next to our bed for the first two months, then slept in her crib. I think the newborn napper is flimsy and she would never sleep in it, and I found the "changing station" part to be a total waste. Now that she's older and rolls all over the place, we use it as a playpen to keep her corralled while I need to get something done. If I could make this decision over again, I'd skip the PnP and just get a playpen or get a very bare-bones PnP, not one with all the unnecessary add-ons and music and junk.
We have a Sleep Sheep, and while white noise didn't work to soothe DD when she was young, I kept using it every night at bedtime, and now it's something that cues bedtime for her and helps her fall asleep. It's good to have something like this to bring when we're sleeping away from home.
Our Snap-n-Go stroller frame has been one of our best investments. I use it for all our walks and running errands, and it's especially needed now that DD is over 16lbs and it's basically impossible for me to lug her around in the car seat. It's super light and easy to tote around.
I just got an Ergo carrier and I wish I had gotten it sooner or put it on my registry so someone could've gotten it for me. It's so comfortable and I kept putting it off because I figured I could manage without it and it costs a pretty penny. The Moby is good for home use, but it's really a pain to put on; all that heavy material is not conducive to being on the go.
We got an AngelCare movement monitor and I love it. We've used it since the day she was born and I'm addicted to it. It doesn't actually reduce the risk of SIDS, but knowing that an alarm will sound if my baby stops breathing has been a huge comfort to me. However, now that she is older and in her nursery, I find myself really wanting a video monitor. She moves all over her crib at night and I'd like to be able to see her to know when I have to go in to move her. All that being said, I'd recommend getting both if you can afford it, or the new AngelCare movement monitor plus video.
Okay last couple things...read "Happiest Baby on the Block" before you have your baby and make your SO/H read it, too. And put some California Baby skin products on your registry so that people don't buy you a bunch of Johnson & Johnson junk. I don't know how into "natural" stuff you are, but J&J and Baby Magic etc. all have harsh sulfates and parabens, which are horrible for adults let alone babies. I threw out a ton of J&J that I got at my shower.
*Aden and Anais receiving blankets- great size and weight and you can use them for anything; tummy time, light blanket, swaddles, etc.
*Sleep gowns- I love these things. Makes nighttime changes sooo easy.
*Diaper caddy- Great if you live in a two story house. I keep all the essentials downstairs so I'm not running upstairs for every change.
*Safety 1st 5 in 1 bassinet- It has built in white noise machine, vibrations, a night light, it rocks, it can be a carrier, etc. It's amazing and DD loves to sleep in it at night.
*Dreft stain remover- we don't use the detergent but the spray is amazing for getting out tough spots- like spit up. We use it on all of our clothes. Love it!
Essentials:
Rock n play;
burp cloths (lots of them);
jj Cole diaper caddy (for two story houses);
a&a muslin blankets;
swing;
nursing bras and tanks;
iPod or phone for late night feedings;
hand sanitizers;
plain onesies;
swaddle me (for the first few weeks)
Nice to have:
moby;
puj tub;
newborn sized clothing (I didn't have nearly enough) 0-3 is too big
hardly used:
boppy;
regular receiving blankets (but they might be better for dec)
Moby wrap. Sooo helpful to get things done around the house.
Halo Swaddle Sleep Sack.
White noise machine.
Swing that plugs in, batteries suck!
My Brest Friend, breastfeeding pillow.
LOTS of receiving blankets.
We use cloth diapers and LOVE them, so easy. We also use cloth wipes with plain old water.
A bath sling for the baby bathtub so we don't need to hold a slippery baby.
Baby Oxi-Clean!
Sorry for the lack of spaces, on my iPhone!

Halo Sleep Sacks. LO sleeps like a champ when he's in these.
Pacifiers! The free Nuk one from the hospital is the only style he's taken to. We went through 4 other kinds and he would just spit them out.
Baby Einsten play mat.
Waterproof mats that are machine washable. My aunt gave me about 10 of them from the Hospital Supply store she works at. I use them like they're going out of style.
Swing - The only thing DD would sleep in the first few weeks, and it's the perfect height for next to the couch.
Summer Infant SwaddleMe - We can get these much tighter than swaddle blankets and I don't worry about her suffocating herself because she pulls her hands up over her head when she's swaddled in a blanket.
Sound Machine- Our PnP came with one which is portable and we take it with us everywhere, we also use white noise aps on our phones.
Gas drops- Definitely made our nighttimes MUCH easier/happier.
Play mat- This wasn't important at first but since about 5 or 6 weeks she has gotten bored a lot and this has saved me. It gives her something to look at and somewhere I can set her down so I don't have to be holding and entertaining her constantly.
1. Brest Friend (firmer than Boppy so LO sits up higher) I prefer this for feeding on the couch, in kitchen chair, etc.
2. Boppy- I like it better for night feedings in the bed, and also to prop DD up for naps/ hanging out on couch. *Although if I hadn't received both of these for free I highly doubt I would spend my money to buy both- and had I never tried the Brest Friend, I would have been perfectly content with the boppy.
3. Water proof pads and/ or cheap Gerber cloth diapers- I use these on top of my changing table so that I don't have to change the sheet every 1-2 days. I can change out the pad when pee or poop gets on it and just change the sheet on laundry day.
4. Swing- preferably 1 that plugs in. My DD doesn't even stay in hers all that long but 5-10 minutes so I can eat breakfast is invaluable. She's starting to look at the mobile more and some days will also sleep in it so we are slowly getting more use out of it.
5. Ergo- although I had this when DD was born I didn't start using it till 5 weeks and wish I would have tried it sooner. I can wear her while cleaning, shopping, and going for walks when I don't want to pull out the stroller.
I also love the A&A swaddlers and use them as our everyday blanket, as a nursing cover on occasion, and under DD in her car seat to keep her cooler (probably won't be a issue in Dec.)
I have a ton of burp cloths and keep a couple in every room b/c it seemed like every time I needed one, it was MIA.
I do cloth diaper and use cheap washcloths as reusable wipes- it's easy to just throw them in the wash with the diapers.
