Baby registries....???

DH and I plan to go and register here in a few weeks. We are getting all our ducks in a row to figure out what we need and what we want. Here is my long winded question....when we were registering for wedding gifts we reg. in 2 places, but we only registered for say towels at one store, not both. My girlfriend is pg and just finished her registries but she is registered for a lot of the big things at the two stores they reg. at. So she has 2 bouncers, 2 swings, 2 PNP but she is pg with a singleton. Is this the norm or should you only register for those bigger items at one store? Sorry for the explaination/question but I'm just curious. I would only think to register for that stuff from one place...but what do I know! I'm a FTM!! HEHEHEHEHE! :)

  • you only need 1, but I could definitely see a use for 2 of some things, keep one upstairs and one downstairs or one at a grandparent's house.  She may also figure if someone is shopping at the one store she'll be more likely to get the big things she needs, you can always return what you don't want/ need.

  • From my experience it is easier to register at one store. I know this may sound crazy to some but it kinda forces people to go to that store and purchase what you really need. If they can't make it to that particular store they can purchase things like diapers and wipes elsewhere.  There are so many people that don't even know how to use a registry either. Some stores are really strict on returning items also. I would check with the store you plan on registering at just to be safe. I don't think its the norm to register for the same items on both registries. One piece of advice I can give you is only register for things you are REALLY needing. They have so much "stuff" in most stores and the majority of it is not necessary at all! Good luck!
  • I think people will register for items twice at two different stores so people can choose at which store they shop.  For example, my sister has a Target Red Card so for family showers (when the bride/mother-to-be are out of state) we always shop at Target - she gets a 10% discount and free shipping.

When DH and I register we will only register for the item once at one store (likely where it is less expensive) unless we want two (we plan to register for an extra car seat base).  That way we are less likely to get duplicates which we then have to return if we only wanted one of the item in the first place.  I would feel awkward registering for something so that I could have one and the second could go to my parents/inlaws.
  • I am registering at three places since my family and friends live in different areas and don't have the same stores around them ( and the older ones don't do online shopping).  For that reason there will be a few items that will be duplicate items, as well as the items I actually want more than one of.  Another suggestion that was given to me was that if it was something that was really important for me to have to put it on two registries.  Other than that I would only list the items once of on one registry.

One of my firends registered at three places and put EVERYTHING on all her registries and told me she did that because she figured she would be doubles and triples and then return everything that was extra and get cash or store credit for it.  I personally wouldn't do that and I think it is a tacky way to go about it.  I am somewhat uncomfortable with registering anyway (although I love it when others register, make shopping so much easier!).

  • I'm registering at Walmart only, tried with BBRUS but the same stuff was more expensive, everyone has a Walmart around and they do free shipping to store, not like BBRUS.
