I'm hitting the 30week mark tomorrow and things are really starting to sink in. I'm starting to worry about everything I need to get done before this baby gets here! Any suggestions on what I should pack in my hospital bag? And when will you have yours packed?
Re: FTM question: What to pack in hospital bag?
I will probably pack mine a day or two before my scheduled c-section.
Chargers for cell phone
Batteries for camera
Nursing gown
Change of clothes for DH
Going home outfit for DD and a simple cotton dress for myself
Chapstick
Toiletries for DH and myself
Boppy
Nipple cream (Hospital may supply this but, just in case..)
With DS, I had packed the diaper bag but, found it to be a waste. The hospital provided diapers, wipes, a cotton shirt, blankets and a hat.
I am just tossing the going home outfit into our main bag.
This is pretty much my plan too except I HATED nursing gowns with DD so I will do some old black yoga pants and nursing tanks this time around.
DD1- 12/26/05 DD2- 4/12/12
I think the general consensus is that they stink but, I didn't want anything on my incision with DS and it was easier for nurses to look at my stitches and pp bleeding.
Not a stupid question!! I didn't know until I looked at one myself.
They are tops that have a clip up top (where a spaghetti strap would begin) and you can unclip the top, pull it down, and it will expose your nipple.
I think nursing bras are great because they can help keep things covered while nursing, for the most part.
I know a lot of moms who just lift their shirt and it works that way just fine, too!
ETA: Nursing tops are great as well but, I found that they just didn't work for me in the hospital with DS.
Never thought of batteries and camera, thanks for reminding me! May be a stupid question but what is a boppy?
Oohh, so basically like a nursing bra...but a shirt. I get it! I never think of the shirt part when I think about breast feeding, but I guess that is easier than lifting the shirt, probably. I'll have to go check those out! Do you know if they sell them anywhere that would sell a nursing bra?
All that plus we brought a video camera, my iPod for the hypno stuff, and my netbook. Oh and some movies because the TV at my hospital sucks, but obviously that's not a necessity lol. Seriously, they have 2 PBS stations, a Spanish station, one that plays mass 24/7 and maybe 2 network channels.
The toiletries and clothes I packed around maybe 36/37 weeks? The rest of the stuff I threw in once I was in labor (since we use a lot of it daily). I figured if we forgot anything DH could grab it when he went to feed the rabbit. We packed one large suitcase.
U-shaped pillow. Good for BF'ing and propping up LO when they get older.
Last time I didn't pack mine until I went into labor. I had a list that I added to as I remembered things the weeks before, but I just waited to pack it until labor started. It gave me something to do to keep my mind off of labor and keep me occupied. I had a vaginal birth, but I lived in yoga pants and nursing tanks for most of the first week after giving birth. It was so so comfortable and handy. I brough a couple different cardigans/zip-up hoodies with me to the hospital depending on if I felt hot or cold. It worked out really well for me. Also make sure to bring nursing pads and nipple cream if your hospital doesn't provide them. Mine provided samples of nipple cream, but they didn't have any nursing pads.
The other thing I ended up sending my sister out for was overnight pads. DD was born at 10:30 am and by that evening I didn't need the large mesh panties and pads the hospital had, but they didn't really have any smaller pads that would hold much. I sent my sister out for some overnight pads of a brand I liked and those were SO much more comfortable for me.
For DD I just packed a couple sleep sacks, a going home outfit, and a couple cute blankets. Everyone wanted pictures with her while we were in the hospital so I wanted her to look cute, but that was just a personal preference.
One thing I did pack for DH was a list of people that I wanted him to call or text when the baby was born and their phone numbers. He was so caught up in the moment he couldn't remember who we had talked about calling.
