Clicky & nonclicky: Do you have a junk drawer?

MH complains about this drawer of miscellaneous items, ie a "junk" drawer.  I say every house has them.  He disagrees.  What say you?

If you have one, do you know what's in it?  Does you H?   His compliant is that he doesn't know whats in it but I know where everything is.

  • contents of my junk drawer:  JUNK!!!  Just kidding, tape, pencils, batteries, some mail/papers, hair ties and random hair clips I find on the floor, some loose change, phone chargers, and I am sure a bunch of other stuff.  DH knows it is there, but it is more my drawer, he stays away from it.

  • If I admit that we have at least 2 and maybe 4 depending on what you consider a "junk" drawer, does that make you think less of me or more?
  • more than 1 in thishouse! Tongue Tied

  • Yep. Ours is in the kitchen and has (among other things): tape, rubber bands, miscellaneous chargers, baggies of loose change, misc keys, post its, a bunch of those packs of flower food, and much more. I do have it semi organized in trays, though!

  • Yes.

Where else do you put random birthday candles, matches, old dog tags, batteries, lighters, screws, old knobs, loose buttons, a screwdriver or two, super glue, wine corks, sample bags of dog food and treats, picture hangers, that special wrench needed for the high chair, extra fuses, padlocks, the water treatment for the fish bowl,  etc?

  • I don't have a "drawer", but we have at least five places in the house where the odds and ends live.

Actually, I take that back. There is a drawer underneath my computer keyboard full of random junk.

We also have a spare bedroom that is basically full of junk. Wink

  • Have more than one.  I know what's in them.  DH still complains.  Maybe I should go out to the garage and start calling his stuff junk too?

  • In ours:

Hammer, screwdrivers, wrench, misc. chargers (cell phone, kindle, ipad, camera), tape measure, scissors and packing tape.

Honestly it isn't that full--but we use those things frequently and it just makes sense to keep them all in the junk drawer in the kitchen. (Instead of going to the garage for the three main tools. Or the office for the chargers.

ditto this. I know what all is in there, DH pretty much knows too. I do want to clean it out though, there is sooo much crap we never use in it and its hard to open/close the drawer.
  • I have multiple junk drawers and a couple of junk baskets. It's just all that random crap that doesn't really have a home otherwise - pens, papers, batteries, and junk! LOL

  • There are houses that don't have junk drawers?

MH complains about ours all the time. I can tell him where just about everything is & it is mildly organized- at least in my mind. But he still gets annoyed about it but does not do anything about it.

Now the basement "work bench" area is a complete disaster but I can't go anywhere near that man zone.

  • DD calls it "the drawer of doom."  No one but me can find anything in that drawer.
    .
  • Ours consists of scissors, tape, paperclips, index cards with things like neighbors phone numbers (for babysitters), magnets, twisty ties, and bag clips. Sometimes there are little Ziploc bags that have box tops in there as well but we don't really at a lot of items that have them so it's rare.
  • i voted "no" because we don't technically have a drawer, but we do have two junk tote bags in one of the closets that store random crap that has no other place or that i need to go through and sort out.  address labels, recipes, coupons, buttons, etc.

  • We have a junk drawer, but it is totally organized....does it still count?

Thanks to The Container Store recently opening here, I did a major overhaul -and spent $30 or so doing so.

It has pens/pencils/markers, paperclips, note pads, batteries, nail clippers, chapstick, business cards for H, tape, calculator, nails/tools/brackets, measuring tapes, etc.

  • I do.  Contents: flashlight, tape measure, tape, scissors, some maps, pins, razor blades, batteries, exacto knife, packing tape, lighter.
  • I have the opposite problem, i have no junk drawer but DH tries to make one. My rule is, everything has a place. If it doesn't then i either make a place for it or i throw it out. I try not to let junk accumulate.

I have a desk area in my kitchen, and in the cabinets and drawers around it i have a bunch of those small plastic storage units with the drawers. I have a bunch of different shapes and sizes.  I have one for batteries, each battery size gets its own drawer. I have a drawer for random business cards, gift certificates, mini screwdrivers that only work for kids toys, i have one for all the random buttons that come on clothes, etc. I have a bunch of empty space. So as i find stuff it either gets a place or gets chucked. I also have a basket where i keep all the chargers and hookups that come with cell phones, video cameras, regular cameras.

Drives DH crazy. He hates looking through the various drawers for things. He'd rather have it thrown in one big place.
