Everything smells... even my husband

Greetings ladies. I was just wondering if anyone else's olfactory senses are going crazy? I get migraines, so my sense of smell is already pretty sensitive, but being pregnant I find it's a hundred times worse! I can smell if a person has a cold if I'm standing a foot away from them (mucus, eww). If my husband kisses my neck, I can smell his saliva (I've been wiping it off when he's not looking, cause it makes me so nauseous). Before this pregnancy, I never noticed that DH sleeps with his mouth open, but since I can smell EVERYTHING, if he's facing me in the night, I can smell his breath and it wakes me up. It's at the point where can't kiss him if his teeth aren't brushed (thank you, m/s). Does this sensitivity go away/lessen?

Re: Everything smells... even my husband

  • Well, it hasn't gone away for me yet either.  My DH has been sleeping downstairs for me lately so I can get some sleep (he snores, AWESOME!).  Well, when I come downstairs in the morning I can smell his nasty morning breath, and it makes me gag!  BLAH!  I have always been slightly sensitive to smell, so I kind of expected this.  I hope it goes away soon as well mostly for the sake of my marriage!  HAHA!  But seriously, good luck to you, and at least you know that you're not alone!

  • LOL , this is just hilarious. sorry for laughing but im feeling the exact way. I dont want to hurt poor DH's feelings but omg my sense of smell is over the top. The other day i couldnt hold it in and i was like ''Can you please go brush your teeth?!'' , and of course i was told i was being an ass lol...Ugghh i hope it gets better for us because its driving me nuts!
  • I have to admit, DH has been sleeping on the couch for a couple months now. I don't think it has to do with my sense of smell. He still has his tonsils, so he gets tonsil stones. Let's put it this way: before we were married, we stayed with his aunt for a couple nights. When I went to his bedroom to wake him up, I opened the door and almost blacked out due to the smell. His breath filled the whole room and it started pouring out into the hallway. Soon the back half of the house was inhabitable with his bedroom door open. It's BAD.

I think I'm even more disgusted by it right now. We haven't really spend much time in the same room together for weeks, he's usually back with his computer and I'm in the living room. It's not a matter of brushing teeth--it's the actual tonsils. We've basically been roommates for a while now.

  • I have to laugh because I feel the same way. I think I have a super power! I'm just over 13 weeks along and I don't think the sense of smell has decreased at all.

  • When I was pregnant with my son, the smell of my boyfriend was horrible (I thought). For the whole pregnancy it was like that. It went away a month or so after my son was born. Weird. Hope it doesn't last that long for you! It was a long, hard 9 months... :)

  • Ugh...everything smells! We bought a new area rug the other day and the fabric or dye makes me want to gag! I swear smelling everything adds to my horrible nausea. At least my cats don't smell....
