DS is currently EBF. Today pedi suggested we give vitamin D drops until DS' diet is half formula. I would think that breastmilk has everything our LOs need. Can anyone help me understand why I should be giving him these drops?

Re: Vitamin D drops
Vitamin D supplementation is a good idea because mothers are frequently deficient. If you would rather, you could supplement yourself ~6000 IU per day and your breastmilk would then provide enough vitamin D to your baby. Alternately, if you live in the south half of the States, you can make sure your baby gets 15 min of direct sun-on-skin sunlight per day.
For me, it made the most sense to just supplement the baby. I do take 2400 IU for myself because I live up north and know very well I'm not getting summertime sun for at least half the year.

People in general don't usually get enough vitamin D (agree with pp.) We used these until he started solid foods and now we just buy foods fortified with vitamin D. This kind is clear and tasteless. I just put a drop on his pacifier or my nipple.
