Men and the remote

I believe every man has a remote issue...lol.

Here is my typical experience:  my DH can not watch commercials.  So we are watching something...getting interesting, then oh no, a commercial.  He switches stations...begins watching something else...ooh this is interesting and good...5 minutes go by.....switches back to original station which is already in progress......

Time goes by.....DH snores....I sneak up and grab remote and put on something I like....dh awakens..."I was watching that!!!"

Aaaahhhh! I'm not alone, right?

Don't worry, I didn't feel excluded...I'm just glad there are other people out there driving their spouses crazy with the effing remote!  My wife is basically the clone of all my (straight) friends' husbands, so this is not surprising.

This is exactly my husband! Of course you have to add in all the times he is on the computer and still has possession of the remote. When I ask him to turn it to something he says "I'm watching this." I know his eyes haven't moved off of the computer screen in the last 20 minutes but he is totally watching it. riiiiiight

Haha my husband does the EXACT same thing!  Also, if I am watching TV and he comes home or comes in from the other room or something he will walk over motioning with his hand like "give me that" to the remote.  As if it belongs to him and I don't know how to use it!  Or his famous "can I see that for a second, I just want to 'check' something" and then I never see the remote again for the rest of the night!

Lol! I thought this only happened in our household.  This happens a lot with football.  I think the monotone cheering of the crowd puts him to sleep. He can always hear me pick up the remote from the coffee table even if I pick it up slowly.  So funny!

  • I am the TV control freak because I love TV. I like watching commercials and I don't like flipping because you might miss the show when it comes back! Thankfully we like all the same shows so we don't need to argue over what to watch.

MH does have the "watch two things at once" problem. Where he will watch one thing on TV and then another show on his iPad.

((yells at H)) How can you listen to both at once??

  • My DH has the same aversion to commercials. It's so annoying! Now we mostly just watch Netflix so no commercials to worry about. :)

  • We have a DVR and my husband records everything he watches.  Literally everything.  If he wants to watch it the same night it airs he waits until the show has been on for 1/2 an hour so he can fast forward through commercials.

  • We have become seriously dependant on our DVR.  SOOO nice to not fight over the remote anymore.

  • In our house, I'm the one who can't stand commercials. I'm constantly scanning through the channels and I'm very good at watching a few things at once. (Only if it's junk reality or reruns, not a show I'm actually into- then I'll stick with one.) I'm just tired of the logging shows (Ax Men, Swamp Loggers) that DH is into. Really, how many times can you watch someone chop down a tree?

  • Exact thing happens in my house too! Glad im not the only one!

  • DH does the flip channels during commercials thing. Drives me insane! He used to be really bad with the remote but has gotten better (except for the channel flipping). Now the problem is him playing xbox when there's a show on that I want to watch. *sigh* I've suggested a TV in the bedroom to avoid this problem when it occurs, but he's dead set against a TV in the bedroom.

  • DH doesn't do that, but my dad does. Smile
