Can I cry to y'all a little right now? I need it...

I posted back in Dec about why I wasn't going to be around too much... we had just moved, but we have an impending deployment to Afghanistan to worry about, so I was/am really trying to maximize our family time as much as possible...

We just found out today that our "little brother" (another soldier who's in my husbands Company and has very much become family to us, 100%), is leaving MUCH sooner than we were originally told... and my husband will be right behind him. We were supposed to have most of February left with the boys... and now, we definitely don't have that much time. Crying (For security reasons, we're not supposed to give exact dates on the internet.)

All I want to do right now is go up into my room and cry... and I can't. Hubby still isn't home from work, and I so I have the kiddos. I'm going to loose it really soon, and I'm hoping maybe writing it all out will help me stave off the tears for a little while longer. Both of my boys (hubby and "brother) hate to see me cry... it just breaks them down. I always try not to do it in front of them, because it just makes it even harder for them. Get ready for the flood, y'all... it's creeping up. *snifffff*

I'm not looking forward to the conversation we're going to have to have with DS this weekend... and I'm going to have a very unhappy little girl, who is used to seeing her "Uncle Jake" and Daddy every day... and now they're going to be gone for months. Ugh... last deployment was sooo much easier. *snifff* Crying

I know he/we knew what we were getting into when he signed up for this... but it doesn't make it any easier to see them go...

  • As both a former soldier and a former Army wife, I know what you are going through.  I am so sorry.  It's always awful when deployments get moved back.  Prayers to you and your kids that the time goes as fast as possible.  ((hugs))

  • I'm so sorry! I can't even imagine how hard deployment would be. And moving up the dates like that when you were expecting more time would be even harder. Sounds like a punch in the gut feeling. Sad ((hugs))

I have so much respect for military families. First, I thank your DH and "brother" for their service. I salute them. Second, I thank you for supporting your DH. Behind every great man is a strong woman.

I give you (and all military families) my T&Ps.

  • Cry all you want.  SIL has done 2 tours of Afghanistan.  I know how scary it is.  DH's family tried hiding their fears, but I know it was there.  I could tell when she got back and FIL had real tears in his eyes.  This was coming from a man who NEVER cries and is a former military man himself.  I'm not trying to turn this around on me, just trying to empathize.

I will say a prayer tonight for you and your family.  I'm so sorry you are going through this.

  • aww hun I can't even imagine how hard it must be.  I'm so sorry.

  • *wipes tears away* *hugs* I'm sorry they are both deploying much sooner. A few of our friends will be deploying soon for Kuwait. It sucks, but at least it's a safer area... I'm worried sick for my cousin in Afghanistan. I thank God that my DH has turned in his gear and is awaiting medical retirement. Just know you've always got your fellow June mama bumpies to cry to when you need to!

  • Thanks ladies... your support means more to me than you know. I'm more than proud of my boys... they do it because it's what they feel is right, not for the praise... but it's appreciated all the same. Last deployment, I was with my mom the whole time, and thus had someone super-close to lean on. All of the friends I've made here are going home for the duration of the deployment... but I can't do that this time. It's just not feasible. So other than visiting family for brief periods, I'm here alone, and it's hitting me hard this time. Good thing I know the kiddos will be keeping me busy.... and that I have you awesome, amazing ladies to turn to if I need it. :'-)

  • ((hugs)) I remember MH last deployment (were were just dating at the time), it's so hard. You're such a strong mama!
  • My heart breaks for you. Its truly does. I know the feeling as a former soldier and a soldiers wife. Its hard to see them go. And its even harder to deal with when you thought you had a certain amount of time and then its snatched away from you like it was never there in the first place. Will they be getting some leave before they go? A 4-day? Anything like that?

I hope the time you all have left goes slowly and the time they are gone goes by quickly.

  • I am so so sorry. Vent away.
  • My heart goes out to you.  This makes me so sad to even read.  I hope you will be okay.  If it helps at all, I am very proud of your husband, your brother, you and everyone else in similar situations.  You all are the reason my family is safe.  I will keep your family in my prayers and will be hopeful for a quick and safe return.

  • Oh ShangriLa, I am so sorry. The fact that you are not upstairs curled up in a ball right now makes you a stronger woman than me. I wish there was something I could say that would help. Military families are just beyond amazing.
  • Oh, boy. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I honestly don't know how you do it.  But, we're all here for you and very proud of your husband and brother.
