Vacation ideas... where is somewhere warm? And beachy?

We desperately need a vacation, and can't travel out of the country just yet (adoption isn't finalized). Any suggestions on where we could go in the next couple months, preferably near the ocean where it would be warm? Let's skip warm, any suggestions on somewhere nice and hot? :o)  We are on the east coast but obviously most of the east coast beaches are out, but traveling isn't an issue. TIA!

  • Yay!  Am I correct that you don't have to have a passport to go to Puerto Rico? I don't know how it would be flying there with Hadley since we don't have much paperwork (no birth certificate)? Hmm...

Key West sounds good. Stupid stupid question, but would the ocean there be plenty warm to get in? Have Hadley in (even just her feet)?

Yes. My kids were in the ocean here last weekend. And DD#2 had her feet in the ocean at this time last year.

Correct, no passport for Puerto Rico. It's a US protectorate.

You don't need any paperwork to fly with a minor within the US.

  • Found a beautiful resort in Puerto Rico on groupon... but it is in Spanish! Argh. Knew I should have paid attention in those 4 years of spanish I took.
  • Found a great deal for Fort Meyers florida... warm enough there ya think?
  • Florida Gulf Beaches from Clearwater Beach south to Naples. I also was just in Key West last week to visit my Mom and it was breathtaking. I live on the Gulf beaches near Clearwater and it is beautiful here. But when you see the water off Key West, I am amazed at its beauty. I have been to Sarasota, Ft. Meyers Beach and Captiva Island on the Gulf Coast of FL and they are all wonderful.

Here is a link to my favorite place in Captiva Island. https://www.southseas.com/

    This is a resort.

  • To put your feet in and walk around, I would say yes it is warm enough, especially for a northerner. Living here I don't get in the Gulf until it hits 85 degrees water temp. But I also don't like my pool until it is 86-88 degrees. But right now I take my girls to the beach during the week when it is not crowded and they put their feet in the water and splash around. It was 82 and sunny here yesterday. Warm enough to be on a beach in your swimsuit.

  • Stay in one of the Bed and Breakfast cottage type places. We love the Ambrosia.

They are very friendly and allow kids (some places don't) and since it's not high season yet, very reasonable!

Visiting the Hemingway House and the Southern Most Point in The Continental USA is fun. Fort Zachary Taylor Beach is cool and has an old fort to explore. Eat at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville at least once. Just poking around the shops is fun too. There is a butterfly conservatory too, I've never been to it but its something even a baby would enjoy.

  • Ft Myers, FL is my all time favorite vacation spot. I've gone at least once a year every year for the past 12 years, except for this year. It's vacation-y enough to feel like a vacation, but since we're very familiar with the area it feels like a second home too. My mom and aunt are there right now and I am green with jealousy!!!

I already can't wait until next February to take both kids!! Ryan's first beach trip was Ft Myers Beach and Lauren's probably will be too!

  • How about CA? It was a perfect 83 degrees in LA yesterday.

  • Agreed on FL and PR. You can go to the Keys without having to go all the way down to Key West. PR is absolutely beautiful outside of San Juan (exception is Old San Juan).

The Nest/Bump sucks and won't let me change my location. I'm in Arkansas, not Florida.
  • No one has mentioned it but the Gulfport/Biloxi/Ocean Springs MS area is a good option this time of year with there being a lot of the more family friendly Mardi Gras celebrations going on along with the beaches and other things to do in the area...  It's also a little quieter than Florida..
