2nd Trimester

Baby measuring ahead of time, what does that mean?

I went for my 18 week ultrasound yesterday to find out the gender (it's a boy!!!) and for the anatomy scan. While I was there they noticed that the baby is measuring 19.5 weeks. When I first saw my doctor they said that I'm due June 18th but then when I went to my 6 week ultrasound they said June 25th and then when I went to my 11 week ultraound the baby was measuring 5.9 cm and it should've been closer to 4.1 and now my baby is measuring a week or so ahead of time. Does this mean anything? Did they maybe get my due date wrong and maybe it'll be a week early? I know that they will not change my due date. Anyone else have their baby measuring big?

  • babies go through growth spurts all the time...

at 23w mine was measuring 4 days behind...

then at 24w he was measuring 1 day ahead...

    it changes all the time...

  • I'm also measuring almost 2 wks ahead and dr. isn't changing my due date, he just said gonna be a big boy : )  I will probably be having a c-section b/c my dd was only 6 lbs. and I had a difficult delivery.  Dr. said if this baby is measuring 8+ lbs., I should think about scheduling a section.

  • The ultra sound tech told me, my baby was measuring small. I was really concerned too and called the dr and she said it was nothing to worry about. Since you are only measuring 1 week ahead, you will be fine, the baby just may be bigger side.

  • Could be a growth spurt, could just be a big baby, or if you aren't sure when you O'd then your dates could be off a little.  Either way, it's nothing to worry about.

For me, DS measured ahead the whole pregnancy.  My dates were 100% accurate, as I was charting while TTC.  He was born eight days early at 9lb 7oz... he was just a big boy!  What matters most is that LO is healthy.  Dates being off a little is really no big deal.

  • DD consistently measured big for weeks before my OB said anything to me about it.  I had a growth u/s around 38 weeks to check on size, and the tech estimated 8 lbs, 9 oz.  My water ended up breaking that afternoon, and DD weighed in at 8 lbs, 12 oz.  My OB waited to see if the size was consistently large before telling me about it, and he never moved my due date because the original date was accurate based on my LMP and the original dating u/s.

  • My tech has told me with both pregnancies now that the most accurate dating is the 6-8 week u/s. after that they start their growth spurts and start deciding if they're going to be a big or small baby. So that's why they won't adjust the due date.
