I'm Doing Well...Thank you so much (again) for the dt&p

My surgery went more than an hour longer than expected. I have not yet had a chance to talk with my surgeon but my DH said that he admitted that cleaining out the infection was the reason. My implants are out. My breast are still lifted (which is nice) but the implants were beautiful! I miss them but I would much rather be on a true road to recovery than one filled with doubt. Everyone involved is not sure if this was all because of the implants or not--no one can say for sure. So it is what it is. We are waiting on the lab results of my infection to dictate which antibiotic I get tomorrow and take home with me. I am 80% sure I get to go home tomorrow night! If you have just a little more dust, thoughts, and prayers to spare I would certainly appreciate it. I'm anxious to be home with my DH and babies...

Thank you all so much, as always, for being such a wonderful resource of support and friendship!!

(please don't feel bad if you are "over" my updates and such--I'm "over" this too!)Crying

  • I hadn't posted before on your updates, but I've been thinking of you. How scary, and I'm so glad that you seem to be on the mend.

Sorry you lost your new bewbs and more dust that the 80% chance turns into 100%!!

  • OH my goodness!! You've been through so much!! I hope things get better very quickly!

(Any chance they'd put the implants back in at a later date? That is, if you'd even want them?)

  • I'm glad it's (almost) over and you can start feeling better. So will you never be able to get implants again? Will you get a refund? Sorry, I'm just curious..you don't have to answer if you don't want to.
  • Glad to know you're doing well.  I too was also looking forward to a breast lift (do they always come with implant) when all my baby making is over so I was interested in your journey good or bad.  Hope all goes well and your back to your normal life soon.

  • I'm so glad you're on the road to recovery. It's so crazy that with all the advanced medical knowledge we have, there are so many things doctors don't know!! I'm sorry they had to take the implants out. Plenty of ***dust*** your way that you get to go home tomorrow! Keep us posted!!

To answer your first question (and August8080), my surgeon has said two or three times that I can try again with implants in six months.

As for your second question, when you sign your consent forms for the surgery for implants (or any plastic surgery, I would imagine) you acknowledge risks and you acknowlege that many risks will not be covered by your payment for the initial surgery. I remember distinctly asking the question that if my implants had to be removed would that be an additional fee and the assistant said yes.

I would think that my doctor would offer me a discounted rate for new implants six months from now but, honestly, I'm done. If I did this again I think I would be so anxious/fearful that I would go through all this again that all I would do is worry. I want peace of mind and peace of mind for me is no implants for me is best.

Please note that for three weeks I had a perfect recovery and healing process...it was wonderful while it lasted Wink

  • I'm glad you're doing better. Sorry the implants had to come out :(

I know this is a long way out for you, but physically, look into ways to rebuild your immune system after you're done with the antibiotics. They do a number on your digestive tract :( It's not uncommon for people to have abdominal cramping, diarrhea and yeast infections for months following inpatient IV antibiotic treatment. You're also at risk for hospital aquired infections like C-Diff (at least two of the nesties can speak to this ).

Beyond probiotics, there are foods you can eat that can help populate your body with what the antibiotics have killed off.

Like I said, not high on your list of priorities right now but something to consider down the road to get your beautiful body back into tip top shape!

Taytee, you're amazing! Thank you for the heads-up!! The pain killers are already upsetting my intestinal system so I'm already looking for non-drug ways to alleviate that problem. I'll be on the look out for additional ways to get my healthy 'germs' and flora back post-antibiotics (which by the way is looking to be Zyvox (sp?).
