So, we finally got DD napping, so she's not crying for hours & hours every day anymore (thank goodness!). But I think her naps are backward, and I think it might be screwing up her nighttime sleep. The most I can get out of her morning nap is 35-45 minutes, and once she wakes up, she's wide awake. But in the afternoon, she's been sleeping 3-4 hours straight and waking up around 5-6 pm!
She WAS only waking up once a night to eat (3 nights in a row), but then we moved her from bassinet in our room to crib in her room, and not only is she waking twice to eat again, but she's really restless the whole night, and is taking 2 hours to get to sleep again.
I tried keeping her up longer after waking in the morning, but she starts crying & fussing after just over an hour. It was almost 2 hours before I got her down this morning, and she was up 35 minutes later. If I keep her up any longer, I'll just be walking the house with her screaming in my arms. What do I do? I'm soooo tired from being awake all night ![]()
Re: Someone help - naps are backward!
I tried to get C to sleep in the crib two nights ago. She wouldn't have anything to do with it. She would only sleep for maybe 30-45 minutes at a time. Finally, I took the RNP from our room and put it in her room to sleep. She sleeps perfectly in that and is sleeping for longer stretches in her own room.
Maybe put her in the bassinet in her own room? We like to watch tv and stay up later than she can so just us being awake was over-stimulating her.
Fastest year of my life.
Sounds like you are trying to get her on a schedule that she isn't ready for. My baby cat naps most of the day, with one larger chunk in the afternoon, just like yours. But he goes to sleep between 9-10 pm for the night. My pediatrician said that most babies don't start a real nap schedule until closer to 4 months.
Sounds like her issues might be related A) to her age. 2 month old can get pretty fussy. And
the transition to her crib.
I'd give it time. Let her sleep during the day how she wants to, and keep doing your nighttime routine. THat' my opinion!
The way we got our LO on a good schedule was to wake her up every 3 hours during the day to eat. I would let her sleep as long as she wanted during the night (I would only feed her when she would wake up.) I found if she didn't get the feedings in during the day because she was sleeping for long stretches she would be up more at night.
Like I said, this is just worked for us, your baby may be different, but our little girl has been sleeping through the night for awhile now.
Also, just be aware...when our little one is going through a growth spurt she suddenly eats WAY more!

I'm trying to figure out daytime naps too, at the moment LO naps a short one in the morning and a long one in the afternoon like yours, but it does not seem to mess with his nighttime too much (he does 5/6 hours sleep, feed, then another 3 hours sleep). The plan is to try and have him nap more during the morning and see if it helps.
My LO is usually only up about 2 hours in between naps during the day. I try to get him down for his first nap at the latest 2 hours after he gets up for the day, if not a little sooner. The longer they are up, the more overtired they get and the shorter the nap will be. His first nap is about 1 hr, he takes his long nap in the afternoon, starting around 1 or 2 pm.
I'm not sure about the nighttime issue, could be the transition to crib or could be a growth spurt. I'd give it a few days and see if it gets better. Is she swaddled? Maybe she just likes the closeness of the bassinet and swaddling could help with that.
