FTM that plans on breastfeeding. I will be getting the Medela Pump in Style through my insurance company and need to know what extra parts, bottles etc. to buy. What do I need and what will I use? And in general what do I need for pumping? There were so many accessories in the store, it was overwhelming.
Re: What accesories should I buy for the Medela Pump in Style?

I'm assuming you are going to be a working mom and not just pumping occasionally.
I have:
A 2nd set of pump parts. This includes the connectors, the yellow valve piece, the membranes (flexible white part), and breast shields. This allows me to skip washing them every other night if I'm busy or tired. I refrigerate parts between pumps and wash once at night, and disinfect once per week, which brings me to:
Medela microsteam bags. I use these to sterilize the pump parts. I also sterilize bottle nipples in these bags.
Spare membranes (I change mine monthly, and you want backups in case one rips on you)
Breast shields come in different sizes - only the 24mm comes with the pump. My nipples changed a lot the first few weeks after birth, but after that I bought breast shields that fit better. (My nipples are actually really small and Medela doesn't make shields as small as I need, so I use the Pumpin' Pals shields.)
You will want some freezer bags - Lansinoh ones are popular on this board, but I use (and prefer) the Medela ones. A personal preference, though.
Breast pads - I like the Lansinoh ones best.
Hands-free pump bra.
A few extra bottles
The right size shields- a LC can help you with what to get.
Micro steam bags.
Freezer bags for your milk!
