DD hungry in the middle of the night

My DD has never been a great eater - but that's a whole other story.

Last Thurs, she was whining in the middle of the night.  I went and ended up sleeping in her bed from 3-5am, and she whined and thrashed the whole time.  Finally I was frustrated and woke her up and asked her what was wrong.  She said "hungry!!"  I gave her a squeezable applesauce, and she was out like a light.

Same thing happened last night - whined from about 2:30-4:30 and finally asked me for goldfish.

What is going on?  I've never ever had this happen before with either child.  Is she going through some crazy growth spurt?  I even gave her a snack 15 minutes before she went to bed last night.

  • Growth spurt.  My kids do this on occasion, they also eat more during the day during this time then they do in an average week.  For Bri, I put an insulated sippy cup of milk with ice in the fridge and give it to her if she wakes.  Since it happens only occasionally, I don't worry about its effect on her teeth.  For Tyler, we put a whole wheat bagel in a baggy just outside his room and take it in if he wakes with a cup of water.

  • Ya, I'm sure she is just growing. I would offer something a little more filling though before bed or make sure she is getting some good protein and fats in her dinner. I know you guys can't have peanut butter in the house bc that on crackers or apples would be something I would do as a snack. Maybe scrambled eggs, yogurt, or a cheese stick as a snack?
