Pregnant after a Loss

Gush of fluid

You would think this post is self explanatory, but not quite. I had a gush of fluid. Soaked my panty liner, obviously. But, here's the thing...it's not sweet smelling (as water would be), it doesn't smell like pee nor is it yellow. It's like a creamy liquid.

Now, I phoned my OB's number and because it's the weekend I was patched through to that wonderful (note my sarcasm hospital) the on call keeps telling me it's my plug and to lie back and take it easy.

So, first question...can your plug be like a creamy liquid that gushes out? When I lost my plug with DD, it was very obvious, huge clumps of brown/red goo.

All I can do is if I keep leaking is go to L&D and hope they don't put up a fight.

ETA: For title, completely incorrect, gush OF fluid.

Re: Gush of fluid

  • I would not think your plug would gush. That doesn't seam right. When they broke my water at the hospital it had a lot of white icky discharge in it. Keep a close eye on it def. don't hold out on going in.

GL I'll keep you and Sydney in my t's&p's

  • Thanks ladies. I'm monitoring any and all changes now. So far nothing more has leaked or gushed out.

When they broke my water with DD, I didn't feel it, let alone see what it looked like :(

  • I've never heard of it being creamy, always mucousy.

Mine never smelled sweet and I've never talked to anyone who says theirs did. GL! Let us know what goes on!!

  • your water breaking wouldn't be creamy at all, it would be the same consistency as water.  The gush could be from if you've had sex in the past 24 hours, had your cervix checked, or it could just be a gush of late pregnancy discharge.  Doubtful that it's your plug either.  GL!

No sex or cervix check. I was just contemplating on whether or not I wanted the dr to check my progress at my appt this Thursday. It was just so much I have to question it.

  • If it isn't impossible to get to L&D and get checked out, I would consider it.  They can test to see if it is fluid or not, worst case, you waste a little time that way.  Good luck, either way!

  • I literally had this happen to me about an hour or so ago. Same thing your describing. I put a panty liner laid down and kept an eye on things...I haven't had anything more. It felt like I peed myself but it was creamy, yet watery and white. I'm thinking it was just normal discharge. If it happens again I plan on calling my doctor...you should too ;) Keep us updated!

I agree with this. It is always better to be safe and for you to feel comfortable. I had a friend whose water sort of tore when she sneezed hard close to the end and she was leaking for a couple of days before she even knew what was happening.

  • That is very similar to what happened to me when my water broke. It felt like I peed myself, only it wasn't pee. About 4 or so hours later I lost my mucus plug. I would give it a few hours, but if you start spotting, continue to lose fluid, or start having contractions, I would go to the hospital. I think they like you to go to the hospital if your water has broken. I would hope they wouldn't fight you on it.

  • So far, so good. No other discharge changes and no more gushes of fluid. I'm resting and keeping a close eye on any changes :)

  • Can you go in and have them check you out? I would have a hard time accepting that answer too. Good luck

  • I had this happen with my daughter. Totally a gush, definitely not urine and it freaked me out. The nurse at L&D told me you can have copious amounts of discharge, esp. towards the end. My water only broke by itself with my daughter and then also with my miscarriage. With my daughter it felt like a water balloon bursting. There was even an audible (to me ) "pop". Even with the m/c the amount was more than with that gush. I hope that helps.
