Seeing Stars--Help!

Today I haven't felt well, some off and on nausea, a light headache, and while I was making dinner I was seeing stars all around my peripheral vision.  It has been a long week, I pulled a muscle in my shoulder and I have been taking Vicodin (I take it very sparingly and only when I can lie down and rest)  I have had some swelling issues but my BP is always in  the normal range when I go to the doctor.  I read online that seeing stars could be the start of Pre-E.  I am drinking lots of water and sitting down.  Anyone else have this issue?

Vent-I cannot be in the early stages of Pre-E.  I move in one week and my poor husband has done 99% of the work.  He is so fabulous but there is just some things that I need to do and I am gone for the weekend.  Since I hurt my shoulder I have been even more worthless and now from what I need I just need to relax.  I know I am 8 months pregnant and I need to take care of myself but how do you relax knowing that there is so much to do and that your DH has to do it all because you aren't feeling well.  I just want to cry.  Sorry, needed a pity party moment.

  • Hoping it's not pre-e right along with you.  Hang in there.  Call your doc in the morning.

  • I would call doc now so they can monitor it. My doc said if I get a bad headache, see stars, notice pain under my right boob, or swelling call in right away n that you dont need all those things, just 1 symptom could be a problem. better safe then sorry. Feel better!

  • It happens to me on and off.  But it also used to happen on occasion before I was pregnant too.  Since it mostly happens after I've been rubbing my eyes too hard or when I've got a bit of a headache/migraine I've been ignoring it.  My BP is good and my OB knows about the headaches (I forgot to mention the occasional light burst/stars) but says everything looks really good.

It if happens with more regularity/frequency I'll call my OB.

  • Kinda crazy! You just described me today! I'm watching TV in bed right now cause everytime I stand I get all dizzy. Everytime I go to the doc my BP is good. I tend to get low blood sugar sometimes (in pregnancy) so I've just been chalking it up to that. But yeah it's weird. I feel like my blood's been pumping extra hard lately too. I've had a few heart palps so I thought that might also be a factor.

  • I get peripheral stars once in a while but they usually go away after a minute or two and I haven't had them with headache or nausea at all.
  • I've been seeing stars also but have no other signs of pre-e. I mentioned it to my midwife two weeks ago at my appointment and she had me do a blood test that came back fine. Have you seen your eye doctor recently? I happened to have an appointment about two weeks ago and mentioned it to him too - my eye pressure was fine so he didn't seem too concerned. I'd tell your doctor just to be on the safe side.
  • Thank you ladies.  I rested and drank alot of water and started feeling better.  For good measure I took a day off work (the bad weather had nothing to do with that decisionWink ).  Right now I am just going to see if it happens again and make sure I get some rest and water.  It is just so scary when something new happens and you don't quite know what to do.  My doc is pretty relaxed, I am sure she would tell me to rest and see if it continues to happen.  Thanks again.

  • You really should call and let your OB know. Those are ALL symptoms of high BP/pre-e and it is NOT something to mess with.

BP can spike overnight. So it doesn't matter if your BP has been fine the entire pregnancy. It doesn't matter if it was fine 2 hours ago. Headache + seeing stars + swelling = call to my OB immediately, and likely admittance to L&D. (BUT I have had protein in my urine).
