After yesterday's almost burning my house down episode, I'm finally at the point that I need to do something serious about these allergies. I'm prepared to go through the allergy shot regimen after this season is over, but I'm thinking I need to get a cortisone shot ASAP to give me some relief now. Has anyone had one? Did it help? Do you get it from your allergy doc or your regular doc?
Re: Allergy sufferers: cortisone shot?
I used to get maybe one a year or so when I got sinus infections. It's HEAVEN! Go get one, now. You will feel like a million bucks.
I highly rec the allergy shots as well. I used to have to lock up in the house for 6-8 weeks during cedar season. 5 minutes outside had me down for the count. I've been getting weekly allergy shots for a few years and it's rare that I have to take an allergy pill anymore. I still do, but it feels more like my summer allergies.
I just got one a few weeks ago after suffering for about 2 weeks with really bad congestion due to allergies. They are awesome if you are at the point that you feel like the normal stuff isn't working anymore - kind of like a reset to your system. I started noticing a difference after about 5 hrs. I just go to the same day appt clinic at ARC.
Like PP said, if this is chronic, I highly recommend allergy shots too. I was miserable about 6 mths out of the year due to me being allergic to pretty much everything outside to some degree. I was on 4 meds/day when I started, and am now down to 1 during the peak months, and 0 during the non-peak months.
