cramps last night, now again this morning...

Last night I woke up about 12:45 with period-like cramps.  It lasted until about 1:30 when I fell back asleep.  I woke up ok but am now getting crampy again.  It's nothing unbearable but it's noticable and is uncomfortable.  Again, it's like period cramps.

At what point should I get concerned?  When they are timable?  If they get worse?  I'm assuming these might just be BH but I was induced with DS and never had natural contractions and never really had BH with him either so I don't know what to think.  I don't want to over-react but also don't want to pass it off as nothing.  I'm not concerned yet, but just wondering when I should be.

Thanks girls!

Re: cramps last night, now again this morning...

  • I've had menstrual- like cramps off and on for the past week or so.

My OB said to only get worried about them when they are clearly timeable (right now I can time them but they last a while.....so like right now I'm feeling them, and have been for the past 10 minutes or so, but I know they'll go away eventually and I'll feel normal for three hours) and to just monitor them to see if they do increase in frequency, intensity, etc.

She also said (this was helpful to me bc google was not, ha) that they are real contractions - people tend to get caught up in "real" contractions vs. BH - but these won't lead to labor and delivery right now. So don't google fake contractions like I did. not helpful. ha.

  • Im glad you posted this, I to could have wrote this myself. I figured it was all okay but was kind of curious if it meant labor was near. Probably just one of the many signs to add to the list that could mean absolutely nothing or could mean something.

  • this is me too.  im 38 weeks and have been having cramping like this off and on for the past couple of weeks.  just like everyone else is saying dr said to watch for being able to time them.
  • If they go away, or aren't timeable, or aren't increasing in intesity I wouldn't worry about this.  This happened to me for 2 weeks before I had DD!

  • I have had this for a few weeks. last night was really bad. its getting more and more where they seem more regular and timeable but then go away after a couple hours. I consider it to be baby getting ready and  my body
  • If the cramps subtly come and go, then I'd say it's contractions. It can be tough to tell if the contractions aren't super strong since (being very pregnant) it's not like you're feeling awesome inbetween contractions so there might not be much of a contrast!

When I went into labour with DS my contractions just felt like cramps and I only just started marking down when I noticed the cramp getting slightly worse/sharper because I was bored/curious... turns out there was a pattern there and they started getting closer together. I started using a contraction tracker (online) at around 7pm and I was in the hospital by 10pm.

  • I have been having this feeling too, my midwife says not to even bother timing them until they "demand my attention" i.e. can't walk and talk through them etc.

  • I've also been having period type cramping for the past 2-3 weeks. It is not every day and usually wakes me up from my sleep. I mentioned it to my doctor last week and he said it is totally normal for this point and that I have been having them all along I just wasn't able to feel them before. He said to call him if my belly gets hard when I have them, but it doesn't. They also aren't timeable or coming at regular intervals.
