Doctor vent- so tired of "general rules" - NIFR

UGH! Ok, I am BRCA1+ which means I get breast MRI's once a year alternating with mammograms every 6 months. I was supposed to go for the MRI last night but the hospital had called on Tuesday to say my insurance denied it and not to come until they called me back after a peer review tried to reverse the denial. I got a call just now saying I missed the MRI last night.. Um, no, it was cancelled and no one called me to say it was approved. Apparently the insurance co has approved after the peer review but no one told me.

Anyway, the MRI is supposed to be done between CD7 and CD14. Today is CD10 so theoretically I could still go right now. But the reason the test is supposed to be before CD14 is that hormonal changes later in the cycle can give a lot of false positives on the MRI. To me, CD14 is a general O date and that is the general measuring point for hormonal changes. I was arguing with the women that I need to wait until next month because I already O'd (did the IUI this am) and don't fit the CD14 "general rule". She said that's how they do it etc but she wasn't getting the reason behind it at all. So frustrating! So, I scheduled it for the next cycle but she was telling me that the new date was only CD5 and no good (again she was basing the cycle on a 28 day cycle which I don't have!).

Waiting for the breast doctor's office to call me back so I can get this straightened out. Sometimes being too knowledgeable about all this isn't worth the aggravation it causes..but I really don't want to get a false positive on the MRI.

Duh...the chicky you were talking to sure doesn't seem to understand the while many ladies have a 28 day cycle, there are quite a few that don't. You and me included. Sorry for your frustration and double sorry that no one told you that you could have had the MRI when it was originally scheduled. Someone dropped the ball for sure. GL though, hope you get this all straighened out soon. Also FX and good vibes sent that your IUI was successful...hope that was infact the golden egg!

I totally feel your pain. My PCP has to do a referral for me to be covered at the RE. Now, I know that I am really lucky that I do have insurance coverage (although it was better before January 1). I asked them to do the referral for 99 visits and one year. Will they do that, no. Because it should not take me a year to get pregnant and I only need a referral for 2 months because I will not need it after that.

I used to work in a doctor's office when I was a nurse and I really hope that I was not this frustrating to people.

I asked them to do the referral for 99 visits and one year. Will they do that, no. Because it should not take me a year to get pregnant and I only need a referral for 2 months because I will not need it after that.

I used to work in a doctor's office when I was a nurse and I really hope that I was not this frustrating to people.

Do you think that maybe I should ask my PCP to write a note to my ute? Apparently my ute did not get the memo either.

Drat! They left so many of us off the distribution list to that memo!! :-)

Is this my problem? My lady bits have reading comprehension issues and missed the memo?
