vacuum cleaner. recs?

I think my trusty vacuum cleaner is finally about to be trash. After five years and four moves. It was just your standard bagless $50-100 range vacuum. I think a Eureka.

So, does anyone have a cheap recommendation for me? None of this dyson shiit. I'm thinking $50 or a little more.  Help?

  • Haha, sorry. I was going to recommend a Dyson. :P  They even have 5-year warranties.

  • I'm sorry.  I guess vacuums are a "you get what you pay for."  And I would never buy a dyson.  Miele all the way!

  • how long do you expect a vacuum to last? Even a top of the line? Just curious. I've never had an expensive one.

Honestly, even if I wanted to go top of the line, it isn't an option right now but I do need to vacuum soon. :)

Also, why would I choose a bagged vacuum cleaner? I'm seeing a lot of bagged options and I've only ever had bagless since living on my own. Bagges seems messy and annoying.

  • I have a Eureka "The Boss" I think it was just over $100 though. Got it on Amazon a few years ago. It's a little heavier than others, but it was rated #1 for pet hair, so it really sucks things up well.

  • I have a Dyson, which I love.  However, my coworker was recently in the market for a new vacuum.  He wanted to spend around $100.  I found on Consumer Reports that the bagless Hoover Windtunnel T Series Rewind was rated highly and was around that price.  He bought one, and he's told me that he's been extremely happy with it.

  • I LOVE my dyson.  I got it for a good price on Woot.com.  Dyson's usually come up every couple of weeks.  So if you aren't in a hurry you can maybe score a good deal.

  • I have an older version of the Bissel Lift-Off Multi-Cyclonic Vacuum.  I love that the canister detaches.  It is more expensive than you are wanting though.
