I have the normal early pregnancy exhaustion, but I also have been having terrible trouble with insomnia. With my first pregnancy the insomnia didn't hit until 3rd trimester. Anyone else having this problem or have any good suggestions?
What do you think is keeping you up? Worry about something, physical discomfort, something else?
For worry about sleep itself (i.e. you're worried that you're not sleeping, and that keeps you awake) or worry about something else (e.g. baby, job, life...)
turn the clock so you can't see it
remind yourself that resting is good for your body too
breathe deeply, concentrating on the breath
pick a mantra (e.g. "let go") and repeat it on each breath
write down what you're worried about in a journal as soon as you think of it, then put it away
get a progressive relaxation tape or learn online how to do progressive muscle relaxation
develop a bedtime routine that is calming (bath, lavender lotion, whatever works for you)
Discomfort:
if needing to pee is keeping you up, reduce fluids near bedtime
pain: try tylenol, change sleeping position, use a pillow between knees or under knees
sleep in a cool room
Other:
stay away from the computer/other strong light sources near bedtime
try not to exercise right before bed
Hope that helps! You can also google "good sleep hygiene" for more things to do to reduce insomnia. Sweet dreams
I am having the same problem! And I'm also 5w2d I have a really hard time falling asleep and then staying asleep even though I am exhausted. Hopefully it goes away soon!
same here wth my first i slept gret until 3rd tri..now i find myself up at 3am to pee..then just lay awake forever..totally exhausted during the day though..i noticed a 20 min nap in the afternoon if i can get it in helps tons!!!!
I've also been in the vicious insomnia/exhaustion cycle.
The only thing that has helped me at all is having my husband take over a nighttime feeding before he goes to bed and making sure that I'm as comfortable as possible all night. Water beside the bed, vaseline on my lips so they don't get dry, heated mattress pad..
Benadryl is your friend. Most of what's keeping me up is my sinuses, and the simple inability to get comfortable for some reason. It's miserable - I'm SO tired, but some nights I just can't sleep. If I have a night like that, the next night I usually take a benadryl at about 9:00, and I'm out like a light by 10, and I usually sleep through the night.
same boat as you!! With baby #1 I had insomnia during the third trimester...Now that I am pg with baby #2 I am Super exhausted and have INSOMNIA!!! I am so tired!!! i just want some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ but havent gotten them yet.
