My son is receiving EI services for his lack of speech and I am well aware he is not where he should be in regard to language but I am just curious if anyone has a LO that doesn't say one word, not even mama or dada at 16 months. His nonverbal communication and and receptive language are improving but no progress in the word department. He has never been a big babbler either. EI says it will come in time but I would love to her some of your experiences. TIA!
Re: Not one word at 16 months
E is just shy of 16 months and hasn't clearly said anything, on purpose. He babbles all the time, says Ba for bath, and mamama & dadada (though not always in the right context).
I'm not concerned. I read to him several times a day, he signs about 6 words and understands a great deal of what we say to him. He'll talk when he's ready.
DS is 21 months and only says Dada and Mama, and sometimes just at a babble. At his last check-up, I asked the Pedi. He asked if DS understands what we say and he does, so he had absolutely no concern. Most ppl seem to indicate its after 2 y.o. that a Pedi may show more concern. Pedi's are different though. Does your DS understand what you say, but just doesn't "talk"?
I'm not concerned about DS at this point but more than happy to have that language explosion happen anytime!
