I feel like this is a total sucess story and I am VERY excited to share! While DS is only 5 days old I know things can change but at this point I am BF and SOOOO happy after having latch issues with my DD.
Some of you may remember me saying that since BFing didn't work for my DD I went ahead and EP'd reluctantly. I hated pumping and it made me miserable but obviously I kept with it and did so for 9 months and quit when I had enough BM frozen to get her to her birthday.
My biggest worry all through this pregnancy is that I wouldn't be able to BF this one and that I'd have to make the decision to EP again or to FF. It was a decision I really didn't want to make. I wanted so badly to BF and it was a total fear that I wouldn't be able to.
But luckily after 2 days in the hospital DS started to BF and now we are 5 days in and he's BFing like a champ. I really couldn't be happier. I am surprised by how well I've taken to it, too. The only downside is that DH is sad b/c he is having trouble knowing what his role is in everything. He was wholey responsible for feeding DD at this age b/c I was pumping and the LC's didn't want me feeding her from a bottle b/c she could get confused. So things are very different this time. But I am so happy and just wanted to send a message out there that every baby really is different and to have hope if things (anything) doesn't go exactly the way you'd hoped or dreamed of.
Re: Past EPer turned EBFer!
Congratulations!
In our breastfeeding class, they suggested that dads be responsible for burping between breasts/after feeding, and for diaper changes. I really like making daddy responsible for the diapering
Such an accomplishment!
I EP'd for DS#1 and I had the same feelings as you about really wanting to BF this LO because I really didn't want to make that choice of EP or FF. Then DS#2 came early and I had to start out EPing. Just when we were working on BFing, I got an infection and not only couldn't I BF, I had to pump and dump for over a week!!!! *grrr*
Anyway, long story short, we are on 1 week of EBFing! I am having over supply issues from pumping in the beginning, which is no fun, but EBFing and only pumping to relieve pressure is waaaaay better than EPing!
I hope your LO keeps it up and that you don't have to EP again!
YAY!
I pumped for 3 days while DS was so jaundiced that he was too tired to feed (and he had just had his little tongue clipped). I was miserable. I can't imagine EPing for 9 months!
Congratulations! I hope all continues to go well.
DH burps and changes diapers while I feed.
Congrats! I had a lot of issues with bfing dd and am so happy with how bfing is going with ds. Also my recovery in general! It's amazing how different things can be the second time!
Dh's role right now is taking care of dd. But he sah with the kids once I go back to work, so he'll have plenty of diapering, feeding, and bonding time to come soon enough.
that is so wonderful. I'm really happy for you!
and I really needed to hear a good story today. feeling rather discouraged over here for one reason and another. so thank you for sharing.
Congratulations!!
I am a former EPer, too. DD did awesome at the hospital and I was so thrilled. The day we got home from the hospital she refused to latch and lost 9 oz. in one day, no wet diapers, etc. I was miserable when the pedi said we needed to supplement. Back to the pump I went to get milk for DH to give her after I'd try to nurse her. We visited with an LC and now she's doing so much better! We have to use a nipple shield for now, but no more bottles for the past 24 hours! I'm hoping to be completely bottle (and pump) free like you...just need DD to cooperate!
People who have an easy time BFing don't know how good they have it!
