Vaccination reaction?

DD got her 4 year old shots a week ago and her skin is still kind of discolored. I don't remember her ever having any kind of reaction besides the hardness of the leg where the injection occurred. Both of her legs looked kind of like this

imagethough not as big. Her spots got to maybe 4 inches. How long would you wait before asking about the discoloration since it's still kind of purplish?  It doesn't seem to bother her now but did for a couple of days after the injection. Thanks :)

DD had her first reaction ever to one of the shots at her 5 year appt. I was concerned because she had all the same vaccines before and this was the first time she had ever reacted at all. Her arm looked pretty swollen and also bruised. I was going to call doc but then pulled out the paperwork on the shots. For one of them (dTap, I think), it said that significant swelling and bruising was a potential side affect especially if it was the child's 3rd or 4th etc. time having the shot.

I ended up not calling and it was gone within a few days.

  • Ok, that makes me feel a little better. I guess I'll wait it out and see how she does. Her left leg is fine but the right is the one still discolored. She got them done at her new doctors office and for some reason on the side of her leg and not the top.
  • Did she get the tDap or Dtap or whatever it's called?  I got this a couple weeks ago and had a goose egg that was red for over a week.  I remember having the same reaction when i got it 15 years ago and DD had a similar one when she got it in June.  As long as the bump is going down, I think she'll be ok soon.  It took maybe 2 weeks for the redness to go away.

Yea, she got the DTaP, IPV, MMR, and Varicella. I just don't remember seeing that type of reaction on her before even from the same shot. Thanks though :)
