I am watching "Bubble Guppies" with the little boy I babysit and I am about ready to stab my eardrums to numb the pain. Who thought it was cute or charming or a good idea to use Autotune in a kids' show? And wouldn't it be cheaper to just hire people who can sing?
I just don't like the idea of kids growing up thinking that normal music = Autotune. I get using it to fix a sour note, or using it as a stylistic choice, but relying on Autotune to make music palatable is just lazy.

Re: Shut up, Bubble Guppies.
Call me a music snob but I HATE autotune. I agree with you that it can be used for good- like correcting one or two sour notes in an otherwise great recording. But to create a whole song out of it (and how people have almost created a style from said effect) is completely ridiculous. It sucks the creativity out of music and inevitably gives fame to people who really can't sing when there are incredibly talented people making music in their basements because they don't get a chance. URG.
I also think kids need to learn that Autotune =/= music. I don't want Ethan growing up thinking that "real" art is created through mediocre efforts and a few buttons on a computer. I want him to appreciate the effort that goes into creating something from scratch, using just your natural talents and perhaps a little assistance from convenience technology!
I completely agree! Good music takes work people.
