sleeping 3 month old Q-EBF

when did your LO start sleeping longer stretches? We are still about every 3 hrs, like clockwork. DS is 3 months next week. We were on a spurt when it was a nice 5 hr stretch then id get every 3 until he woke up. But now, for about the last 3 weeks its every 3 again from about 8p-8a. I know this is fairly average,i was just wondering when it should start getting better i guess. Im starting back to work next week as well and im getting nervous! please share your night time scenarios and if/when i should expect longer stretches! Is there anything i can do to stretch it out myself. PS-DS wont take his paci anymore :(

Re: sleeping 3 month old Q-EBF

  • You'll have to see if anyone responds to my post that I must have been writing at the same time.   My son is 7 months old and still up every 3-4 hours.  He did the same as your son for awhile and has been back to every 3-4 hours for a couple months now.  Good luck to you!  For what it is worth, my older son started sleeping 8-10 hour stretches most nights right around 12 weeks.

  • My 7 week old is EBF. She started with 5-6hour stretches at night around week 3. At 6 weeks she started to sleep 6-7hour stretches and the last 4 nights she has slept 8 hours! I sure hope it will last but I'm not going to get my hopes up!

I know that a lot of fellow bumpers are not big into routines for young breastfed babies but I started DD on a very flexible routine around week 3 and I think that has a lot to do with her good sleep habits. I make sure she eats, plays then sleeps every 2.5-3.5 hours during the day. In the evening we do our little bedtime routine (bath, lotion, feed, crib) and she is down for the night!

I know they say "don't wake a sleeping baby" but if my DD is napping and she reaches about 3 hours since her last feeding during the day, I wake her and start our little routine over. HTH, good luck!

  • We started at 6 weeks with a 5 hour then 4 hour stretch at night.

7 weeks he started sleeping 6 hours at night before waking.

Since 10 weeks he sleeps 8 hours a night consistently, but has had a couple nights where he's slept all the way from 8pm to 6am.
