Hello-I am usually a lurker, but follow this site almost daily. So, here is my story. We please need any thoughts and prayers for my little boy today
Just so you all know I was 32 weeks and 2 days along.
I was having a new and worsening abdominal and back pain that started Saturday after waking up. It was difficult to describe-I was wondering if I was just being a baby as I am a FTM and know that discomfort is part of the game. Finally after not being able to sleep at all on Saturday night, I called my Dr. on Sunday a.m. at 0330.
Symptoms were vague of course, so he recommened going to the ER/labor and delivery to get checked out. My BP was elevated (140s/80s) which it had been for several months. I had been monitored closely for the past 3 months due to a concern that he was small for his age (2 weeks consistently). But...labwork came back positive for HELLP syndrome (platelets were 39). So my health was a concern suddenly, which in turn could effect our LO.
Due to my low platelets and risk for bleeding, I was given a C-section under general anesthesia. HELLP can also effect the mother's liver and kidneys-so this condition quickly becomes emergent. Nolan Ray was born on 1/15/12 at 12:58 p.m. He weighed in at 2 lbs. 15 oz. and was 15 1/2 inches long. He has been intubated and they are gradually weaning this down at his condition allows. He is so tiny and perfect looking. He has captured our hearts.
He also looks so much like his daddy!!!
I am improving as well. So now we are praying for our little boy, born 8 weeks early. We are in shock as this has all happened so quickly. Thanks for letting me ramble-this has been a scary weekend! All thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

T&P's coming your way! Great name choice by the way. I really like it! I'm glad you decided to stop lurking. I think you'll be glad you did and will be grateful for all the support you'll get during this hard time!

It seems like you have a wonderful attitude for all you've been through the last few days. You will definitely be in my T&Ps! Here's to a short stay in the hospital so you can take your precious baby boy home and enjoy him!

Thoughts and prayers for you both.
I was born at 32 weeks, but at 4 lbs. I believe I had a 3 month hospital stay and then had to be on a breathing monitor at home for a period of time. Today, Once that period of about 6 months passed, I grew and developed normally and didn't have any of the long term problems that preemies are at risk for...everyone says you would never know that I was born so early. This was all 28 years ago and medicine and practices have improved since then. Keep up hope and hang in there, I think the odds are on your side.
Sending your family & especially Nolan lots of T&P's!

Definitely sending lots of T&P your way! I know how scary that can be - DD2 was born 8 wks early as well. Please let me know if you ever want to chat - talking with other preemie moms really helped me deal with her NICU stay. Hang in there!
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a short and uneventful NICU stay for Nolan.
