my 3 year old hasnt slept for 2 nights. Crappy cough and now 103. I have a 4 week old and so so need my 3 year old to sleep.
I am waiting for pedi to call back. I have given her bendadryl and it has not done anything (per pedi from other coughs). I read no cough medicine and am waiting to confirm that.
Any suggestions?
Re: what do you give for a cough?
Our standard practice for DD's coughs is a dose of ibuprofen (great for fever, discomfort, and any swelling assoc with cough) and 1 tsp honey before nap and bedtime. Tried this after I saw a study that said that honey actually worked better than most OTC cough medicine. Several ladies where I work (nursing home) also tell me this is what they gave their kids. It hasn't failed us yet.
During the winter we also run a humidifier.
Thanks all! My pedi actually said delsym was good to use.
I am going to get honey later and try that too, and turn on the humidifier.
I am just praying my 4 week old doesnt get it.
DD -- 5YO
DS -- 3YO
I give this: https://www.hylands.com/products/nighttime-cold.php
DH and I also take it when we are sick. DH is sensitive to medicine and you just don't wake with the hangover of other adult medicine. I found with this and increased water intake during the day that LOs do better at night. I also use the vics plug ins.
the folks who make the saline nose drops also make a honey exlir for coughs. since dd is too young for cough medicine, this is the next best thing. the honey coats and soothes the throat quieting the cough.
