If your babies were born around 36 weeks...

what were their weights? Any NICU time?

After a spike in my blood pressure, I'm doing the 24 hour urine test and will get the results about pre-e tomorrow. If it's positive, I'm fairly certain they'll do the c-section very soon (I'm 36w1d).

Re: If your babies were born around 36 weeks...

  • 35 weeks.  Landry was 4.2 lbs and Hudson was 5.9 lbs and they both spent 2 weeks in the NICU for keeping warm, eating and growing.  They both had two apnea spells that they recovered from on their own but, that bought them both an automatic 10 days each.   At 36 weeks you should be fairly good to go!!!  Congrats on making this far, that's awesome!!!!

Mine were born at 35w6d and they were 5lbs14oz and 4lbs12oz.  The smaller one was in the NICU for 5 days as just a feeder/grower.  Her larger sister had an apnea spell or two and was in for 6 days and came home on an apnea monitor.  Good luck to you!  As strange as it might seem, I actually appreciated that my DDs were in the NICU for a couple days because it gave me a chance to recover a little without caring for two babies.   Also, the NICU nurses were great at teaching us things.

  • 36 weeks 3 days.

    A - 5 lbs. 4 oz

    B - 5 lbs 12 oz

Both got very high APGAR scores.  They ended up in the NICU on Day 3.  I was discharged Day 5, and they came home on Day 7.

They were in the NICU b/c they couldn't hold their temperatures.  When they came home I had to keep them bundled, and regulate the temperature by their crib, and take their temperatures every 3 hours.  It was rough, but we got through it.  If there's nothing you can do (like pre-e), you just do what you need to, and everything will work out.  It was very, very hard to leave the girls, especially since they told me they could be there two weeks.  Thank God it was 2 days and they surprised us all.

  • Oh wow! Mine were 37w6d but like pp's said, 36w is pretty good--average gestation for twins--5-6 lb babies and no NICU time are not unlikely; keep me posted. I'll keep you and your babies in my thoughts and prayers! Love you!

  • I delivered at 36w4d.

DS (Baby A) was 7lbs 6oz. BTW his name is Hudson too...seems like we all have great taste in names ;-)

    DD (Baby B) was 5lbs 9oz.

I consider myself lucky that my LO's had zero NICU time. I delivered vaginally and I had some complications, but we were all released after the standard 2 days. I know NICU time is considered a normal expectation for multiples, but it's not a gurantee as my story demonstrates. For all of you who had to do NICU, wow, you ladies are so strong in my book!

We live in CO, so most preemies need at least a little o2 help.  Mine were no exception.

Annabel 5lb2oz - 12 days of NICU time (2 days oxy help, feeder grower)

Michael 4lb15oz - 19 days of NICU time (2 days vent-he had a pda-not common for 36 weekers, feeder grower, went home on oxy-had it until he was 7 weeks old)

  • I delivered at 36w2d and mine were 5.5 and 6.6.  My smaller one had to go to the nicu for a 6 hour obs per hospital policy (all babies under 5.8 go) but she was perfectly healthy and they both went home with us after 2 days.  Good luck!

I delivered one day more than you and my Lilly was an ounce more than your Landry and my Maggie was an ounce and a half more than your Hudson! Just find it interesting!

That is interesting.  I have always wondered why Hudson was so much bigger than Landry....I'm glad to know that it's not uncommon!  : )

  • 36 weeks and 1 day for my twins and baby A was 6lb 6 oz and baby b was 6 lb 9 oz. Apgar scores were 9 and 9 for both and neither needed any assistence. It varies so much at the 36 week mark. Good luck, you are awesome for making it so far!

  • I delivered at 35 w 5 d due to pre-e.  DD was 5.2 and DS was 4.13.  Both went to the transitional nursery for 6 hours (hospital policy for babies under 37 weeks) and then came straight to us.  No NICU time was necessary!

  • 35w6d, A: 6lb 7 oz and B: 5lb 11oz. They had to go to NICU to get checked out since it was before 36 weeks. Baby B came straight to me and the kept Baby A for 4-6 hours to monitor his breathing. He had a little fluid in his lungs from my having a c-section and not squishing him out. 36 weeks is great, mama!

  • 36w4d

Fletch (Baby A) was 5 lbs 14 oz

    Piper (Baby B) was 5lbs 4 oz

They both got 9s on their APGARS and didn't need any NICU time. They didn't leave our side at the hopsital (except when we sent them to the nursery at night).

  • Mine were born at 36w2d: 7lbs 2oz and 5lbs 12oz.  No NICU time - they developed jaundice at the end of our hospital stay and went home on phototherapy.  Otherwise, they were completely healthy.

  • 35w 5d - S was 5lbs 1oz, E was 4lbs 10oz

No NICU time and were with us in room the whole time (except when we sent them to the nursery a couple of nights to get some sleep). They both left the hospital with a little jaundice, but it cleared up within a few days and they did not need any therapy for it.

     Good luck! :)

  • 36 wks 4 days for me. I got steroid shots at 33 wks. Babies were 4 lbs 9 1/2 oz and 5 lbs 1 oz. No NICU time. They had some temperature issues, but they were controlled with warmers in the nursery and they needed to have their sugars checked often. Both were controlled and not a problem by discharge and we all came home together.  I feel very lucky.

    Good luck!

  • Mine were 36w4d.  DD was 5.7, DS was 6.9.  They spent a couple days in the NICU because I had a fever during delivery, and because DS had a little trouble breathing at first.  We all came home together.

Good luck!  Youv'e done a great job making it this far!

  • My girls were born at 36wks4days and were 4lbs 8oz each.  Neither needed any NICU time.  I did not receive the steroid shots either. I was really surprised they did not need to go to the NICU. They went straight to the regular nursery after my csection.

Gl in your tests. I hope your girls get to stay put a little bit longer. I know how exciting it can be at the end but every day helps. Keep us updated. :)

  • 36 0 / 7 delivered via c-section for severe pre-e

Both were 4 # 10 oz.  Both stayed in our room for first 36 hours until DS ran out of surfactant and went into respiratory distress.  (On the first night they had some issues holding their temps but did fine after super swaddling).  DS had blown holes in his lungs and the space in the middle of his chest trying to breathe.  He was transferred to NICU at the children's hospital for one week.

DD went home without any problems.

  • Mine were born at 36w3d. They were 4lbs. 14oz. and 4lbs. 15 oz, so right under 5lbs. each. They did not require any NICU time, they both came out screaming and were very healthy.

I also had a BP spike at 36w0d and they did a 24 hour urine catch and I was fine, no protein in the urine. Baby A broke her water on 36w2d and they were delivered vaginally 24 hours later. Keep them cooking as long as you can, but at this point you have a good shot that they will not require NICU or only need a couple of days at the most.
