I have been thinking about what DH and I should do about child care when I have to go back to work after 3 months. I am planning to talk to my boss about working from home 2 - 3 days a week and DH can probably work from home the other 2 days. I was thinking we might be able to ge someone to come in, at least part-time, to watch the baby from our house while we are working. The problem is, how do we go about finding child care. A friend of mine mentioned care.com as a source for child care. Has anyone used it before? If so, what did you think?

I used care.com to find a part-time nanny for my son for his first two months home after my maternity leave (he went to daycare near my work when he was 3 months old). I interviewed a lot of candidates. It is just going with the person who you think will be reliable, has good transportation to get to your home, and will do a good job with your baby.
I felt like there were some great candidates out there. Some of the candidates were like telling me what hours and what days they wanted to work. I ended up going with a grad student who was okay with the part-time hours that I was offering, as well I was able to get her for $10/hr---for an infant, it was like a 10 hour day that the nanny was covering--just so I could spend some time with her transitioning the baby over to her, then it took 30 minutes to get to work and back.
I really felt like she did a great job, and I gave her a great review.
We also had our inlaws coming in for 2 days a week to watch my son as well. Those first couple of months are a little crazy. I definitely like daycare better because my son's daycare is 10 minutes from my work.
I can't review the nanny yet, but we're interviewing one this week from the site. I like that you really can be specific about your job. We are hoping this girl works out. It seems like there are two groups that most of the nannies fall into which are college students and older women. We are only needing part-time care which many of the college students seem to be seeking. Background checks are available for all on the site. Some women do pay for it for you, but I'm not ruling someone out b/c they don't pay for that ahead of time. Anyhoo, I really like the site. It's easy to use and has a lot of qualified people on there looking for jobs.
