2nd Trimester

Second tri intro and Aveda question

Hello, second trimester ladies - it's about time! Here's hoping the headaches and 24/7 lethargy are kicked to the curb.

My doc said I could dye my hair at 16 weeks (booo.... I had 13 weeks 3 days marked off on my calendar). He suggested Aveda because it's 97 percent natural or something else organicish.

What hair dyes have you all been using? I was hoping to get something to use at home, so I don't have to spend my baby slush fund at the salon. Wink

  • This is one of my fave stores. They have an online store too... Never used any of the dyes myself, I don't dye but they offer quite a selection of natural color:

Just verify ingredients w/ your doc first... Personally I'd get professionally done though, it's worth the $ I think ~ my mom was a stylist. Most of the box stuff I've seen just turn ppls hair orange & leave dye marks all over their head. Maybe Aveda makes box kits though, Check sally's too

  • High end professional color ( not box color from the drug store) are lower in ammonia and peroxide than DIY stuff. Aveda haircolor is no dofferent from other salons.. Aveda still uses ammonia and PPD to make their hair color WORK "97% natural " or not.Little to zero of these chemicals crosses into your bloodstream.

  • I've had my hair colored using Aveda a few times before pregnancy and it was gorgeous hair color and didn't have any fumes at the salon - it was wonderful! So nice not to stink after having my hair colored.

  • Lurking from first tri.  I am an Aveda stylist.  It is kind of misleading.  The permanent color is 97% natrually derived so yes, it still does contain chemicals to make it work.  The demi permanent is 99% natrually derived.  Demi is great if you have no greys to cover and are concerned about coloring.

  • That Naturtint got some great online reviews! Thanks! I'm going to try that and make a backup appointment at an Aveda salon. Awesome suggestions. I feel pretty...
