who let me get on a scale?

I've surpassed 40lbs in gain.  I eat well mostly and still hit the gym at least 3-5 times a week but now I'm having a hormonal freakout that I'm gonna have extra weight to lose.  I don't see where I've put on extra inches anywhere except my belly, but today was the wrong day to satisfy my curiosity and break out the scale

Re: who let me get on a scale?

  • I get weighed at every appt and now that they are weekly, there is no hiding any weight gain or surprises.  Has your doctor said anything about your weight?  I wouldn't worry about how you will take it off later if you are active.

  • Don't get on the scale again! Focus on the fact that you are providing life and nutrients for a healthy baby. Think about all the great walks and jogs you will be able to go on this spring with the amazing baby that you created in your body! You will lose the weight, there is nothing to worry about!

I feel you and am in the exact same position. At my appointment this week I didn't even look at the scale. I figure that at this point it is beyond my control and soon enough I will have an outside baby to BF and at that point begin focusing on losing weight in a healthy way.

  • Up until like month 7 I would get so bummed about my weight gain.  Finally, I stopped being obsessed and just realized that I have to deal with what it is.  Now, I don't get on the scale and I don't look at the OB and I do not have them tell me.  My DH is not allowed to look either :)  If you are eating healthy and working out now, I'm sure you will have no issues losing all of the weight after your LO is born :)

  • thanks gals...i don't normally get too excited about it but these last few weeks have been intense with hormones exacerbated by nil sleep and I just had a moment today
  • Truly, don't worry about it. I gained 37 pounds with LO and I've already lost 27 of it and he's not even 3 weeks old yet. Smile

This is inspiring!  I found myself trying to compute how many pounds were fluid versus baby versus fat last night LOL ( I know the averages, but who knows how big my LO is etc) because I was trying to figure out how hard it would be.  I've always been very active and kept weight off and have done my best to stay active during this PG so raitonally I know this is probably just how my body does pregnant, but the number I saw last night gave me some palpitations (I haven't  been looking at the docs if I can avoid it)

  • I'm only a FTM, but I'd say don't stress about it. You're still active and that weight will fly off.

I bet your weight just falls off after LO is born. I didn't exercise at all while pregnant (or before I was pregnant for that matter) and I wasn't active at all in general because I didn't work during my pregnancy (horrible morning/noon/night sickness through 20 weeks). Losing weight is not easy for me, so the fact that I've dropped so much already is really shocking to me. Given that you are an active person, you should have no trouble getting back to your pre-preggo bod. Keep in mind though that you don't want to lose it all right away - I've read that you should keep on about 10 extra pounds after the birth of baby if you plan to BF. Part of the reason I probably dropped a few of those 27 pounds so fast is that I haven't been doing a great job of keeping myself fed. It's hard to do anything with a newborn, but I've been making more of an effort to make sure I'm nourished well since I am exclusively BFing at this point. It is hard not to freak out by the numbers on the scale sometimes, but a lot of the weight really is baby and fluid.

  • (lurker from the Oct 2011 board - looking at everyone's precious babies that are arriving!) Don't worry about the weight unless your doctor is concerned. I ate healthy during my pregnancy but when summertime hit and the heat was intense, I gained TONS of water weight. In one week alone, I gained 13 pounds. There was nothing I could do about it. I was so water logged, I looked horrible, felt horrible, and had swimmer's ear because I was retaining water so bad. I ended up gaining 75lbs (not including the weight gained in the hospital while hooked up to fluids). I delivered a 9lb baby (a week overdue) and lost 55 pounds in the first four weeks after delivery. So it will all come off eventually...especially if you are active during your pregnancy! Good luck!

  • My little one is a week old today and I've already lost 25 of my 40 pounds.  I lost 4 since yesterday!  This kind of freaked me out, so today my goal is to stuff my face as much as possible!  I'm worried I haven't been getting enough calories to keep up my milk supply, even though I've probably been eating healthier than I was when I was pregnant.  My husband is on a diet so it's like we're on 2 opposite ends of the eating spectrum.. You are going to do great- I think I worked out a total of 5 times the entire time I was pregnant!
