Advice on getting 4 month old to take a bottle

So I am very lucky that my dd started sttn around 8 weeks old. Before that, DH would wake with her once and give her a bottle of bm. Well, as soon as she started sleeping until 5, we stopped giving the bottle. Part of it was laziness and part of it was that I ep for my twins and was just so sick of pumping. Well now she absolutely refuses the bottle and I'm regretting that we didn't keep it up. My pedi seems to think she will never take a bottle and that we should just introduce the sippy at 5 months. I honestly don't mind exclusively nursing, but every once and awhile, it would be nice to go out without having to worry that she is going to starve herself. Any advice on how to get her to take a bottle? Or is it really too late?

  • I'm in the same boat...I've been just slowly getting my mom and husband to try to give her a bottle when they can. They say they will refuse the bottle if mommy tries to give it to them. She seems to refuse breastmilk but will drink formula sometimes?? I hope you get some responses...

  • My DD is now 5 months old and takes a bottle effortlessly, but I was in your shoes about a month and a half ago.  She flat out refused the bottle for a few days, but for us, we just kept offering it.  From what I had read/heard, so many resources said the baby will refuse it from mom, but that's how I got her to take it- from me!  We tried a few different bottles, and she ended up taking the Tommee Tippee one.  I also tried feeding her in my lap, facing me, not in the cradle hold.  That's how I initially got her to take it.  I say, stick with it, keep offering it, and hopefully you will have the same luck as me.

  • we're going through bottle refusal right now. DS is almost 4 months old and stopped taking a bottle from DH last month, which really stressed me out as i was starting back at work last week. since starting work and sending DS to daycare, he's been taking a little more each day from his teachers. first day, he took nothing. second day, 1 oz. i had to drive over there at lunch to make sure he was at least getting a full meal.

this weekend though, he won't take a bottle at home from DH (and definitely not me), so we're having him just practice getting acquainted with it again at home.
