Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone else's baby vomit from over-eating?

My nine month old was just eating [he's ebf] & out of nowhere, vomited everywhere. He eats table food, but none of that came up -- just all milk. He hadn't nursed in hours, so my breast was a bit fuller than usual, and he did a gaggy thing after he first started eating, then two minutes later he threw up and wouldn't eat anymore.

Sorry for the TMI, but he never spits up, ever, not even a tiny bit. He's sleeping soundly now, no fever, or crying, nothing, he just ate, threw up, and fell asleep. So my question is, does this sound like a bug, or overeating?

  • Considering you were full, I'd say it sounds like overeating and too fast.  This used to happen to us in the very beginning before he could handle my letdown. My kiddo gets baby food too and if the I mix in too much rice cereal and it's too thick (usually when it's peas, as they are already thick) he gags a little, then on occasion he throws up.  Once that happens he is DONE but I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to eat after throwing up either.

If your LO is sleeping and otherwise normal then I would say you are fine.  If you are worried then when he wakes up check again but it will likely be normal still.

  • Thank you. :)

Yeah, he's been spacing out his nursing a lot now since becoming more active and now that he's cruising around you know? So we're back to where we were in the beginning with the heavy letdown at feedings, especially at night.

I was just concerned because he has literally never spit up before! Always thought I was too lucky to be true lol.

    Thanks again!

  • Yes, DD threw up from eating too many solids once.

  • This has actually just happened to us a couple of times this week!  It happened at bedtime when DS (9.5 months) was getting his bottle.  He had eaten his dinner not too long before (maybe 20 minutes or so).  I'm pretty sure it was from overeating.
