Babies: 3 - 6 Months

shaking head 'no'

When LO was under 4 months and very colicky, he would sometimes shake his head (as in 'no') in an effort to go back to sleep. Within the last week, he has started doing this again. Last night, he would shake his head very vigorously and cry and refuse to nurse... he finally fell asleep and stayed asleep for more than two minutes around 12:30! Has anyone seen this before? Is he fighting sleep, or teething, or overtired?

  • DS does this every night.  He's asleep when he does it (or at least, his eyes are closed).  I believe he uses it to self-soothe.

  • P does this but not while she's trying to sleep. She just does it randomly during the day. She really gets it going too! I feel like she's gonna shake her little baby head too much. I have no idea why they do it!

  • My daughter does that when she is drifting off to sleep though I can't tell if she is fighting sleep, or if she is in pain from teething (which she is going through). But you are not alone!

  • My son started this around 3 months. We co-sleep and it seems like he is looking foro boob.
