Homemade baby food pouches???

D LOVES to eat out of the pouches. We are to the point with them that I can just hand him a pouch and he feeds himself. I did a little quick math and realized we would spend well over $1000 a year on food if we bought pouches for all of his meals.

Anyone hear of a product to put homemade babyfood into a pouch??? That sounds like the best idea ever right now.

  • Could you make it, freeze it in portions, and then put it in a foodsaver vacuum bag?  It doesn't have the same shape, but you could fold it a bit and then just cut the seal in the corner or the middle.

  • Yes. Beaba makes them. They're called compote pouches, I believe. I have one and love it!!! The only problem is it holds a lot and if it's not full, it's hard to teach DS how to push it up towards the spout.

    ETA: Ok, it's called "babypote".

  • Just wanted to say thank you for the question! I was having it too.

My rant --- DD loves the pouches too, but I've been hating them! I can't believe they cost like 50 cents more for the same amount of food and they come in a non-reuseable/recyclable container. Plus if you look at the ingredients they have more apple/pear than anything else, which is not always true of the jars. DD hates my pureed cooking (by spoon - she eats finger foods) but I am hoping I can get one of the containers that PP suggested.

  • OMG.  With my son going through a few a them a sitting, I HAVE to find something that is more affordable.  I was searching to web today to see if I can find some reuseable pouches and I found a couple  https://babyology.com.au/feeding/on-the-go-food-pouches-%E2%80%93-portable-baby-food-genius.html   and This is the one that I decided we were going to buy and they carry them at target, but only online.  I was SO hapy when I found these.  Hope this helps you out and that it saves you some money. These ones run 15.oo each  https://www.scichild.com/Shop/brand-beaba/Babypote-Sorbet
  • i just found this: https://www.pouched.com.au i haven't ordered them yet, but they seem most simliar to store bought pouches...
  • Those Cherub and Pouched pouches look perfect!!  Too bad both are only sold in Australia. :(

I own both the Babypote and Silico.  The Babypote squeezes out way too easily - just created a nice slimy mess to clean up.  Once DS saw how messy he could get, actually eating the stuff was boring in comparison.  He didn't take to the Silico at 12 months, I think because it kinda requires biting and really hard sucking to get it out.  But I tried again at 15 months and now he will use it, but it leaves a lot left in the bottle despite all the squeezing I have to do.

Thanks PP on the Vapur foldable water bottle rec...I'm buying one on Amazon now to give it a shot!

  • Report back - just tried the Vapur bottle with applesauce and it's perfect!!  My son was able to hold it just like a baby food pouch and suck it all out!  I'm so excited....this weekend I will head to the farmers market and get stuff so I can make purees again!  Thanks for the rec!!
