Frequency of doctor's visits? Feeling like a 'watched pot'...

Even though the doctor says baby looks great and he's not worried (although I am rh-sensitized), my current schedule is to see him every 2 weeks for regular appointments + ultrasounds, to have blood tests also run every 2 weeks (they took 14 vialsyesterday), and to go to the midwife's office for NST/contraction monitoring twice every week. (next week I have 2 final birth prep classes on top of the rest too!)

I'm happy he's being extra-cautious and know we're better safe than sorry, but I'm just curious if anyone else feels like they might as well bring their sleeping bag and move into the doctor's office/lab/midwife center for the next month?!?!

How frequently are you seeing your doc and/or midwife for visits and other regularly scheduled tests/check-ups these days?

  • I am right there with you...

For the past 3 weeks I've gone to the doctors twice/three times a week and even had appts at the hospital. Although, my blood pressure keeps going up and down so they are watching that close. I also had my platelets drop but they are back to an ok range... So...

Every Tuesday/Friday I get NST scans, Every Friday I get U/S after the NST scans- then I visit with the doctor after... And I'm getting blood work every two weeks... :( They keep telling me at each appt I am close to being pulled out of work but I am trying to hold on so I can use FMLA and have extra time with the baby :(!! I know in the end our health is most important though..

I don't mind the appts since I know it's all for good reasoning.

  • Wow.  That is a lot :(

I'm just going in for my normal weekly checks now.  There was talk of one more u/s but that's been tabled (thankfully).

  • I have doctor's appointments weekly now. I also go for twice weekly non-stress tests but I have had spiking blood pressures so they're watching everything very closely. It's definitely a lot of time in the dr.'s office but I would rather be overly cautious, kwim?

Yep! I'm really happy that the Dr. takes even a potential problem this seriously, but it does make me laugh every time I go to the midwife for the NST and LO goes to town like he's in a kickboxing class. The midwives kept moving me around today trying to get him to settle down, saying that he was too active. Obviously they know the tests are the doctor's idea, not mine, but I hope they don't feel like I'm wasting their time!

I'm also happy that I'm not alone in the frequent visits...

  • I have two appointments every week.  I had previous miscarriages and a baby that died after birth due to Hydrops.  I see my OB and have an U/S weekly along with weekly NSTs at the hospital.  I have an all day childbrith class in a couple of weeks too!  Baby is doing great, but we can never be too cautious!

  • Woah, that sounds like a lot. I go weekly now, and I had to go yesterday for a blood work up and my rhogam shot, but other than that, just once a week.

  • Going every week as of next week's appointment.  If LO is still breech, though, they'll schedule me for a separate ultrasound.  If the ultrasound confirms that he's breech, they'll want to schedule an ECV.  If that doesn't work, they'll want to schedule a C-sec.  So, I feel like I may end up going in much more often than once a week for a little while, which will definitely be a bit much for me.  Here's hoping he flips by next Tuesday!
  • Yeah, I have NST and u/s at the perinatologist every week (starting last week... so it could be up to eight weeks of that) and then I have to check in with my OB after those... plus my regular OB appts (which for now are every 2 weeks... switch to weekly at 36 weeks). It's a lot... but I LOVE seeing LO every week... and since her growth is such an issue, its a huge relief to see her performing like a champ on the NST and making sure she's still okay to cook longer on the u/s.

  • Because of GD I've been going more frequently in general, but started twice a week 2 weeks ago!  I get they cautious with all the things that can happen, but sometimes it really feels like overkill.  I go on Mondays for a NST and to see my OB, on Thurdays I go for a BPP and meet with my GD nurse.  Fun Fun Fun...all this 'til he's here!

  • I would be losing my mind going as often as you are, or other PPs!

I have my next appointment two days shy of 38 weeks, two weeks from my last appointment.  I'll go weekly after that (what, max two appointments?)

    Hang in there!!

  • I'm going 3x a week now, 1 x to regular OB and 2x for NSTs.  I mean, if they want to monitor the baby like crazy that's fine with me.  but making up the time at work is getting to be a big PIA.

This! In my case, I'm high risk, so I've been going almost wkly for a good while now and each time I either get an u/s, blood work, or an internal at my visits. It's a pain, but it's also been very reassuring at the same time too. I also like the fact that I get to see LO regularly and have tons of pics of her progression.

  • I have pre-e and also go twice a week now and have weekly ultrasounds and NSTs too.  It does seem like a lot to me, but I have been threatened with hospitalization.  So I'd rather go in daily than get put in the hospital.  At least this way if there is something to catch, they catch it.  And I'm not allowed to work anymore, so it isn't like I have a lot of interfere with;
