May 2011 Moms

I'm running away from home tonight. (ETA: And it was awesome.)

Just for the night. I'm nearly 100% sure I'll come back by 7 am.

Owen's sleep has totally fallen apart. I still have 4 adults, 2 older children, and him in my 1000 sq ft house. My sister (who is staying with us) has offered to take over baby duty for the night, and I am going to go sleep somewhere I can not hear him. Somewhere I can not hear anyone. It's going to be bliss.

I feel a bit bad because he's not night weaned, and he's going to probably be mad... but I'm going nuts here and I can't even do anything about it until Friday when I get my house back. I'm leaving. And I'll be a better mom when I get back.

  • Yes

Admittedly, I run away and I never feel guilty for it. You need it. So, take it.  Hope you feel better in the a.m.

I will definitely post an update in the morning. I hope I can sleep. I cut myself off coffee at noon today in preparation.

  • I am jealous! We are not night weaned and no where near STTN. ENJOY your sleep!!!!

  • Seriously, you will be a new woman in the morning. It's unbelievable what one night of rest can do for you when you haven't had a good sleep in 8 months. Enjoy it!

  • Take some Tylenol PM or something if you're worried you won't be able to fall asleep - this night is too precious to waste!

My parents still talk about how my mom went to stay at a hotel one night. I was a horrible baby. My record was crying for 11 hours straight. Tongue Tied

  • It was lovely. I slept for about 8 hours (I did wake up a lot out of habit, but I just rolled over and went back to sleep). Owen missed me, but there was no hours and hours of crying, just a lot of wake-ups and some confusion over my sister's useless boobs. I think he's already over it, just a bit tired.

I feel great. And it's good to know he'll survive a night without me when it all gets to be too much to handle. My boobs were ready to blow, but they also survived.

Glad too hear everyone survived! This only validates the request I made DH of having the night off for my birthday!

Do it. And go far enough away you can not hear the baby. That was my secret to success, as I can't just stay in bed and let DH handle things... I'm awake if Owen is crying.

Unless I'm in another house, totally unaware.

  • I hate to say this, but I am totally jealous.  I can't sleep if Ella is crying even if DH goes in either.  I so need 1 good nights rest, no crying, no snoring, no dog...

  • I'm happy to hear it went well! I was going to ask for an update. I'm the same way - even on nights when DH is on duty, if I can hear her, I'm awake and wondering how in the world it can possibly take DH *that long* to make a bottle. I swear some nights he must measure out the water for mixing formula using an eyedropper.

  • Isla isn't night weaned and in the last 2 weeks I spent 2 nights away.  She survived.  I was worried the first time about how she would react toa  bottle in the middle of the night but she sucked it down fine formy mom and went to bed.  Not that she had much choice, I was dying with the flu that night.

  • The trick with my dear boy is that he will not take a bottle.

And he rejected the soother a few weeks ago.

He's a go-getter, my boy, but I wish he would have stuck to baby things a little while longer.
