If your kids play sports, do you get pro pics?

I usually opt out and just have dd get in the team pic but I'm wondering if I will regret this someday?  They always seem so overpriced and I'm always skeptical about the quality.  I used to take her to Picture People and get her pics done there in her dance costume but I've even skipped that the last few years (somewhat based on costume cuteness, or lackthereof).  Anyhow, tomorrow is cheer pics and it's $20 for a team pic, a 4X6 and 4 wallets.  Is it worth it?

Also, I'm not a great photographer but I do have DSLR and can take a decent pic.  Every season I make it a point to have a mini session and get a few good ones.

  • DS didn't want his pic taken this year at hockey, so we just got the team photo. We do have a 5x7 of him from hockey and t-ball last year.

  • Only you can decide if $20 is worth a memory but to me it definitely is.  And I think I am a pretty good photographer, it's just not the same as the corny pic.  And I would never skip the team pic.

  • My DDs soccer picture was so stinkin cute, I just had to order it! I much prefer when do the packages where they let you look at the pics, then return the ones you don't like.

  • I always buy at least a small package...I figure i'd rather drop 20.00 now then regret it later.  Besides, if the pics come out cute you can always gift them :)  We gave out my sons hockey pic this year to my grandfather who loves hockey, everyone loved it.  We also had a pic that included one of just him and one of his team framed for my sons room, he was excited.
  • ML is in ballet and I think my photos are way better. It takes her a few takes before she stops with the teeth gritting photo op "smile" and I'm pretty sure a "pro" would not give her that time to relax and try to make her give a genuine laugh. I take them every year before their recital, so I have the running timeline.

i do, like school i get the smallest package. usually about twenty dollars. i perrsonally love looking back and seeing how much they have grown. there is no right or wrong answer here and it just personal preference.

I agree. I think if you got enough pics of them in action, or even did some of your own, its fine.  Its definitley up to you.
