I know it's been discussed like crazy on here a while ago.. but we weren't there yet. Can anyone give me and advice as to where to even start? DD has been showing an interest for a while....When we were away on vacation for Thanksgiving she would ask to do #2 on our big potty and we would just hold her on it while she went. Then she kinda became a bit hesitant of the big potty and would always say "No" when we would ask if she had to go potty (even tho we could tell she was going). I figured we'd back off and try again after the holidays. We just purchased her own little potty and she absolutely just loves sitting on it.... and putting her dolls on it and telling them "GO Potty". But where do we go from here? The last few days I've been asking her when she first wakes up in the morning, before naps and before bed "Do you want to go sit on your potty" Sometimes she will say "Potty" sometimes she will say no... I haven't really been pushing it when she says no. Today right before nap her diaper was dry from the morning so I put her on the potty and she did pee... but I could tell she really had no idea she was going. (At least to me she didn't seem like she knew). At daycare (She goes to daycare 1-2 x a week) she will ask to sit on the potty there when she sees the other kids on it. So where do I go from here? Just keep asking her? Should I just start putting her on it without really asking her at certain times of the day? I really am in no rush to have her potty trained... but it's just that she does show some interest in it....so I thought I'd go with it.
Also any advice on like how to easily get her on and off the potty? Ha! It's such a pain unsnapping everything and then like you can't easily slide down the diaper and it just seems so cumbersome... and then getting the diaper back on after ...etc... Am I missing something here? I don't think we are really ready for pull ups... but man it's a process!
Re: Long....Can we talk potty training?
we're in the same boat, so no advice here.
M was all interested then the novelty wore off. he's never gone #2 in the potty either. at first we made a big deal and gave him special treat (m & m's) when he went, now i think we need them to get him off the potty.
my mom is really keen on getting rid, er i mean getting him into school next sept but he needs to be potty trained, so i've been hoping she's just take the lead there, since she's already done this and is with him all day 5 days a week.
she finally kinda took over today and he spent most of the afternoon in the potty- reading books. i also bought pull ups which he did not want to put on today, but we fought him and got them on. i don't really think he peed much during the day but while i was at the gym tonight DH neglected to keep up with asking him if he had to go potty and that pull up was pretty damn full when i got home.
we'll see what tomorrow brings
I am committed to early potty training. I didn't plan on switching DS #2 to underwear on Friday, but it just sort of happened and now we aren't going back. We have been putting him on the toilet regularly every day since he was about 10 mos old (before/after naps and meals and before bed). We got him underpants for xmas and he was really excited about his "elmos". I let him wear them Friday morning and he was doing really great so I let him stay in underwear all day. He had 2 accidents. Saturday he had more accidents. Two happened when he was with DH. Yesterday he started to go poop and came running to me saying potty potty and we finished on the toilet and then he peed once and said "uh oh, pee pee". Today he did awesome. He was with my babysitter all day. She said he started to pee once and stopped himself and finished on the potty and peed once while eating lunch. He didn't have any accidents the rest of the day so I have decided we are going to stick with it.
DS #1 was totally potty trained at 21 mos. so I know it can be done.
We've been potty training since she was about 22 months old. She wears pull ups and she is pretty good about telling us when she has to go potty. Sometimes she tells us after she went, we're still working on her telling us before the business. She's now 26 months and after 4 months worth of pull ups we are getting ready to get her into big girl undies during the day (we still diaper at night, though those diapers are not super wet lately) Pull ups are just SO expensive.
We actually trained her how our sitter reccommended which has worked pretty good for us. Pull ups during the day and diapers at night. We ask her all the time if she has to go potty and we put her right on the toilet. We never used a potty seat or potty chair, our sitter explained that if we start with one of those than we would have to work with transitioning her from that to the normal toilet. Which makes sense. I guess the most important thing is consistancy and patience
Good Luck!
