So we've decided to name our daughter Alison. Our last name starts with an 'M.' The only middle name we both like is Rose (it's a family name). Which would make her initials ARM.
It's bothering me that her initials will spell something -- am I overreacting? Would you hesitate to give your kid a name whose initials spelled something (even something innocuous like arm)?
Re: thoughts? initials that spell something
our first name that we had picked out was william arnold dunk which spells wad. lovely, i know...since we've changed it to liam mathew dunk which just is licenced medical doctor. it's hard when your last name starts with a letter that can easily spell words.
i don't think arm is a big deal. we only changed it because wad was a big deal to us. even with using liam his first and last innitial are LD i decided i don't care anymore and we're going with it.
I wouldn't worry about it- my initials used to spell HAG and very few people actually picked up on it.
I think ARM sounds a lot better than PMS! Not my initials by the way.
I don't think people usually pick up on it unless you actually tell them, it should be fine.
Sweetness, my initials (pre-marriage) spelled A..R..F! I got teased a lot but I lived through it. My parents did it again 7 years later to my little sister who is still A..R..F..
ARF -- that one is tough.
JAR -- I thought the study suggested something like positive connotation initials were beneficial (like ACE) -- I don't remember that spelling anything was beneficial. Go figure. But then again, my last psych class was in college 8 years ago, so...

With us, dh is a Star Wars fan, hence our son's name is going to be Lucas. My nephew brought up that his initials are going to be LEA, so he'll be both Luke and Leia (nephew can't spell, I pointed out there is and 'i' in Leia). don't think I want to add an extra middle name so that works though. Lucas Elliott Ian.....nah, don't like it.
I don't think it's too big of a deal. But then again, my daughter's initials will spell out LAW (which is great fun as I'm an attorney).
Side note, my Cousin was going to be Andrew Stephen (MN after his dad). But the last name is S. So his initials would've been A-S-S Good thing my Grandma pointed that out to them before they signed the birth certificate. They changed the middle name to Thomas.
Funny how you have to be conscience of these things. My maiden name is Jack, and my parents were going to name me Jennifer until my grandmother pointed out that a Jenny is a female donkey and a Jack is a male donkey. Its always the grandma to notice it seems.
I would just try to avoid spelling anything bad. LOL My initials until I got married were LAB. It never bothered me that it spelled something that benign.?
?
I really liked the name Bethany, but BJ doesn't seem like a good thing to peg a girl with. LOL?
