NBR: DC neighborhoods for single friend moving for job?

My friend is finishing up FBI training and being assigned to DC.  She isn't familiar with the area and asked for my help.  I've spent most of my time here in the suburbs, so I was hoping some in-the-know ladies could help.  Here is what she wrote to me:

"I'd like to be in downtown area, not suburbs. DuPont, Adams Morgan, Capitol Hill, Penn Quarter, these were some areas I've been looking. I'd rather be in a 1 bedroom.  It can be small, I don't want to sit in traffic all day after work - so i'll forgo space for convenience since I am single w/ no kids."

Any thoughts about a good match would be very helpful - and also any insight into areas she's best to avoid due to crime, very family-oriented, too college-aged, etc.  She's not a party-all-the-time person and will take her job seriously, but I'm sure she'd like to be somewhere fun, too.  Metro-accessible is probably a good thing, but I don't know where exactly she'll be working.  Thanks for any help!

    Not sure what her budget is, but I always liked the Woodley Park area. Capitol Hill is nice, but not entirely safe, depending on where she ends up. Most of my friends (single and not single) that came to the area liked living in Woodley Park.

    Agree about Woodley Park.  I also don't think you can go wrong with Cleveland Park.  In Cleveland Park, there's a grocery store, several great restaurants, it's right on the Metro, and I never felt unsafe when I was living there (when we were first married.)

    Adams Morgan is a bit inconvenient for metro use.  Penn Quarter is very nice but doesn't really have a neighborhood feel to it.  Eastern Market is very nice for single folks.

    When I was young and single, my favorite neighborhoods were Dupont Circle and Cleveland Park. Both are fairly safe areas with lots of things to do.

    Will she be working at the FBI building? If so, Penn Quarter would be incredibly convenient. She could easily walk to work.

    I lived in Cleveland Park when I moved from the burbs into the city. I loved it and it was SO convenient with lots to do. The area has only improved since I lived there 8+years ago. I never felt unsafe walking around there after dark, or at any time really by myself.
