I posted in November about my daugter having a swollen lymph node. Fast forward now 6 weeks...She still has swollen lymph nodes on both sides of neck (2cm). We have seen two ENT's, oncologists at CHOP, and had a chest xray and lab work. Chest xray was fine, lab work was good. She was put on two rounds of antibiotics. ENT says to give it time. Oncologists think it is not lymphoma because lack of other sysmptoms.
I am still very uneasy about these nodes in my daughters neck because they have not gone down in 6 weeks. Online I read (I know google is a very bad thing) that lymphoma is very tricky cancer and sometimes there is no symptoms other than swollen lymph nodes. I don't know why I am not satisfied with all these doctors telling me to wait it out. They don't think a biopsy should be done (only way to diagnose) because of the risk of anaesthsia and because they feel it isn't warrented yet.
I just don't understand why they are not going down. What happens if the docs are wrong. How long do I just wait? wwyd?
Re: wwyd regarding my daughters lymph nodes.
did she have any symptoms?
I've had four opinions...2 ents and 2 oncologists (same office-one a fellow the other the oncologist).
Am I nuts. Oh well I think I'm going to schedule another appointment at a different Children's Hospital.
And she hasn't been sick?
I had extremely swollen lymph nodes a while back. They ran all sorts of tests and I came back positive for Lyme, which was actually a false diagnosis from my Lupus.
I would personally take her to another Children's hospital, although it sounds like you got a lot of confirmation. Could they possibly think it could be from a recent illness and maybe they are waiting it out for that? Mine only took 2 weeks to go down. I would have gone nuts with 6!
How scary! I will keep you and your DD in my thoughts and prayers! No other thoughts are ideas!
DS2's labs came back normal but he has been very tired the last couple of days.
My son also ended up with a case of mono - the doctors said it could take some time for lymph nodes to return to their normal size and I think it took about 2 months. Was she tested for mono?
If all ofher blood work came back in normal range (blood counts etc.) I am not sure what other doctors can do. But, trust your instincts....
Go to another Children's Hospital or at least another ENT. While chances are everything is ok b/c they did a lot of tests, sometimes Mother's intuition needs to be trusted. When I had my doctors and a pediatric orthopedic say that my DD was fine, I went to a Hospital in NYC and she was diagnosed with Infantile Scoliosis. My point, just your gut and hopefully they will just confirm that there is nothing wrong.
Good luck!
