Tips on stopping bottle before bed

Hi all,

So now that DD is getting teeth in, I know it's time to stop doing the bottle right before bed.. Currently, we do bath, bottle, bed, but I know that we should do brushing of the teeth instead. I'm nervous to do the bottle before the bath because we've gotten so used to this routine and I hate to wreck a good thing! DD goes to bed easily, and I know it'll take some getting used to. I'd also like to break the "bad habit" of associating the bottle with bed. Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thank you!

  • I give DS a bottle before bed and then wipe his mouth out and give him some water to drink. The first couple times he was mad but now he is used to it. I am going to try giving the bottle before bath soon and see how that goes.  I am taking little steps with him because he loves a bottle to sleep but he knows now he has to get his mouth wiped but can go to sleep right after. Does your DD fall asleep while drinking or does she fall asleep a little after she's done?

  • I am also wAnting to start doing bottle before bath. We just started brushing after that bottle too and it was hard at first but she's over it now. Kinda just wanted to do bottle right after dinner somits ,ore associated w that meal as opposed to something tonputnher to sleep

  • Same problem here.  Right now I do solid food around 6-6:15pm, play, bath (every other night) or wash face/hands only, jammies, bottle, bed.  I "brush" his teeth during bath or washing up.  My LO falls asleep with the bottle though for bedtime (at least not for naps too). It sort of started from the beginning when he just couldn't stay awake to even finish eating.  Now he just falls asleep most of the time before I can get him to the crib.  Sometimes he is still awake after and then we cuddle and I lay him down awake, and he goes to sleep on his own.  I'm afraid if I give the bottle earlier he might start waking up earlier.  How do you make the change - just do it one day and hope for the best?
