If you have an SUV, please come in and tell me all about it

I currently drive a little Acura TSX, which I love, but I already feel it's too small with DD's carseat and stroller, and I want something higher up for ease of getting her in and out. We are looking at an Acura MDX, BMW X3 or X5, a VW Toureg or an Infiniti FX, if you have any of those cars I'd love to hear what you think of them, or if you have a different SUV I'm open to hearing about it. I'm absolutely horrible with directions so a good Nav is essential ;)

  • I really, really love my Honda Pilot. I feel like I have plenty of room for DS, a stroller, a German Shepherd, and impending Baby2. We always keep the 3rd row folded down for storage and it works out wonderfully. I'm a Honda girl at heart though, so I admit that I'm biased.

  • I love out Hyundai Santa Fe.  We've had it 4.5 years and haven't had one problem with it.  I've always hated driving until we got this car.  It's the biggest Hyundai SUV but isn't huge.  I do not have a 2nd row and it has plenty of room for us and our 90lb lab.  The best is the 10 yr/10k mile warranty.

  • We have an Acura RDX, which is nice because it drives great and is comfortable for the 4 of us for long trips, but it does not meet my daily needs with 2 kids.  I need a 3rd row.  I just ordered the Hylander Hybrid and should get it in a month or so.  It has a 3rd row, which is great for carpool and the like.  It is big enough for all of us for long trips, with room for a dog, which the RDX does not have, and is far more fuel efficient than the MDX.  I would look for SUVs that have a 3rd row and that have around 150 cubic feet of space.  These seemed to be the sweet spot for us between having enough car, and having the driving experience we wanted.
  • We have a Jeep Liberty, and my mom and dad have a Patriot.  Jeeps are great cars, they have plenty of room without being big and bulky and they will run forever.  My parents have an old work Jeep with over 200000 miles and it is going strong.

  • Thanks for the input everyone! Looks like we need to add a few more to our list.

  • We bought a Mazda CX-9 this summer and I absolutely love it.  The GPs hasn't failed me yet!  Its got three rows so its big, but still drives like a smaller SUV, which is nice.  It also gets decent MPG for a large SUV at roughly 24.

  • I have a 2 door honda, so H and I "switched" cars once the baby arrived. He takes the gas-efficient car to work when he drives into the city and I drive the "family-mobile: his Ford Explorer. I love it. It's "loaded" so we have the in-dash navi, dvd player in the back seat, heated leather, starter, etc. There's a 3rd row, but we usually keep it down for the stroller, groceries, the dogs, etc.

We paid off both cars last year to help eliminate bills while I SAH, so we will be driving (both) into the ground.  So far, so good. No issues at all.

Had it been my choice as to which SUV to get, I would have gone with a Honda probably CRV.) I just love them. It's on the small side though.

  • We have an X5, and we love it.  The back doors open just enough to get the carseat out without a problem, and when the third row is out I can fit the stroller (Jeep jogging stroller) and a TON of groceries/random other things without any issue.  With the third row in the stroller still fits, but there isn't as much room for other things.  We bought a small trailer for long trips, but that is mainly because we like Duke to have his giant box.

The X handles better than any other car we test drove, and since we got the diesel, we GREAT gas mileage.  The climate system is awesome, and the automated features make driving SO much easier.  DH loves it because he hated minivans (his input).

  • I just bought a new suv yesterday!

I bought an '07 Honda CRV 5 years ago and have loved it for the last 5 years.  It's the perfect size for one kid.

I just wanted a new car with bluetooth and navigation, and something slightly bigger as we are TTC #2.

We bought a 2012 Toyota Highlander Limited.  LOVE it.

Definetly add both of those to your list!

I'm a Honda girl through and through, and really like the body style of the old Pilots, but just can't stand the current one!  I think the back of it is so ugly!  I test drove it and loved it, but just couldn't get past how I felt about the outside looks of it.

I ended up with a Toyota Highlander and really like it, BUT it feels wierd driving a Toyota after 15 years of Hondas!

  • I am a Honda girl too...currently we have an Accord :-( Tight squeeze in that car.  I've borrowed our neighbors CRV and Pilot many times and I love how much room are in both and how much easier it was to get Chloe in and out.  Next Wednesday I am buying a 2005 Honda Odyssey, I wanted an SUV but I couldn't pass up this van with it's DVD player, heated seats, and sunroof!  I'm so excited.

Our first baby girl, Lucia Joy, joined us on April 1, 2010!
  • So off your initial post:

Acura Mdx is not that much larger than a large sedan

Bmw's: the X5 is much larger and you will have more options

VW or Audi would be my first choice as we have an Audi and they ad owned by the same parent company.

Others I would consider : ford explorer or edge.
