Dual Military Deployments

I am dual military and pregnant. My husband and I will both be deploying four months after the birth of this baby. Leaving behind our four year old son and the new baby. Is anyone else dealing with a similar situation and how are you handling the stress?

Re: Dual Military Deployments

  • I am not, but I think most people in your situation would be stressed. I'd say the best way to control that stress is to keep your family care plan updated, and to communicate with the people on that FCP so they and you are as prepared as possible.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

  • I separated from the military just after I got married, so I am not in the same situation.  I'm not sure what branch you are in, but as of when I got out, USMC policy was that new moms were non-deployable for 6 months (unless they waived it themselves).  I am surprised that you would be deploying so soon.

Not sure about other branches but I know this isn't always true in the Navy.  I had a friend who was sent right back to a ship after her 6 weeks of family leave were up.  The ship went on deployment about 4 months later, kind of sucked for her because there are a lot work ups before a deployment.

The Army is 6 months as well.  A friend of mine gave birth in June and deplyed the following March.  She just made sure the entire family was aware of her plans ans what she wanted.  If your spous and you are deploying together and have the opportunity to live together, that will be a great support for both of you.  Being deployed with DH, itreally sucked but having him there made it bareable.  If you have other questions about dual military deployments, PM me.  We got back from ours lett than a year ago.          ETA: Stupid phone and it's small buttons.  Sorry about the crappiness of the post.

Not true anymore for the Navy.  We get 1 year post-delivery deployment free. The USMC gets 6 months.

My DH and I will deal with this in the future.  It's not ideal, but we have a good family care plan.  My parents will care for DD if this ever occurs and we're cool with that.  My DH can retire in 5 yrs and I can retire in 12.  We'll make it work until then.
